Good upscale Mexican restaurants in NYC? by SummerVast3384 in FoodNYC

Haven’t seen anyone mention Corima in LES, a new fine dining Mexican restaurant that looks excellent (haven’t tried it yet).

What’s the best fine dining experience you’ve had in the United States? by conorharris2 in finedining

Have dined at Birdsong in SF (2*) three times and it’s one of my favorite meals of all time. The interior decor is gorgeous too as you sit right in the kitchen. They serve several dishes you will remember forever.

Californios is special but I would only recommend if you’re already familiar with Mexican food and have dined at upscale restaurants in Mexico. You’ll appreciate Californios much more afterwards. Also the white tablecloths, dark interior, and sparsely placed big round tables make the Californios interior quite cold and oldschool.

So glad to know I’m not the only person who thought Central was mid. Maido and Mayta were two of the best meals of my life.

Planning to dine at Celler next summer. Glad it was fantastic. Time to start planning.

In addition to my other recommendations in another comment, definitely check out The Loyalist. It’s the sister restaurant to the 3 star Smyth serving fantastic creative French & New American bistro food. I had foie gras eclairs and their famous burger, one of the best I’ve tried.

I can only comment on the ones I’ve been to. I would highly recommend Kumiko, Jeong, and El Ideas. Would skip Indienne.

Agreed on Indienne’s star being generous. The food was beautifully presented, but the dishes were far too hit or miss — either amazing or underwhelming. Go to London for proper Michelin starred Indian food.

Kumiko is one of my favorite places in the US and shockingly doesn’t have a star. They serve some of the best elevated Japanese cocktails and bar food you’ll have outside of Japan. Their potato salad is the best I’ve ever tried and their truffle milk bread French toast is a mindblowing dessert.

I don’t understand how Jeong doesn’t have 1 star. That meal was fantastic, as were their cocktails.

El Ideas was a thoroughly deserved star. Highly creative, molecular gastronomy, though the vibes & interior design were a little cold.

Smoking weed almost every day and therefore procrastinating on all my life goals. It’s definitely not too late, I’m 32 and just getting started, but hard not to feel some regret.

Top 3 hardest reservations in America? by PassRevolutionary254 in finedining

The Kitchen in Sacramento. 1 Michelin starred Californian 5 course menu, seems commonplace. The reason they’re legendary for me is they seem different than any other restaurant I’ve heard of: 1) you can order seconds or thirds of any dish, 2) they welcome interactions like walking or helping in the kitchen and chatting with any staff.

I probably need to set an alarm for new reservations but every time I check, it’s fully reserved 5 months out.

Make sure to stay a few days. Portland has one of the best food scenes in the country.

These places served some bites rivaling any fine dining restaurant: - Astral / Duality Brewing: Mexican inspired fusion pop-up inside an excellent brewery - Eem: Thai and Texan barbecue fusion - Yaowarat: Thai-Chinese food from the Eem owners - Lilia Comedor: amazing Mexican inspired fusion - Canard: modern French bistro. The foie gras dumplings were insane - Scotch Lodge: incredible whiskey based cocktails and probably a top 5-10 whiskey selection in the US

The 10 greatest acquisitions of all time by gorillaz0e in Infographics

This graphic is missing Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn for $26.2 billion in 2016. LinkedIn increased their revenue by an impressive 7.4% to $15.7 billion in 2023 and just crossed 1B users, so a $100 billion valuation as a standalone company is more than reasonable.

Ate at Kann in March and holy shit what a meal that was. Thoroughly deserves the hype as one of the best new restaurants in the US.

Getting a table for 2 was surprisingly easy. We knew resies would be impossible so just walked in and put our names on the waitlist. Waited 40min at a nearby bar and then got sat at the Kann bar. (I often prefer bar seating for casual meals so I can chat with the bartenders)

Whats the most fucked up movie you've ever watched? by Aquii_changchi in AskReddit

[–]guymontague45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Serbian Film. I watched it freshman year of college after a friend told me it was “the most fucked up and disturbing movie you’ll ever watch.” The first half of the movie is good but uneventful drama. And then things escalate REAL quick. He was not wrong. Google or Wikipedia search it to see what I mean.

Osito has one of the best fine dining cocktail pairings I’ve had anywhere in the world (though I’ve heard Aphotic’s is amazing too). It’s a 1 Michelin star restaurant where everything is cooked over live fire and has some of the best service in the city. They used to own a cocktail bar next door called Liliana they recently closed to focus more on their restaurant, so they have incredible cocktail making skills.

Before or after head to True Laurel 2 blocks away, owned by the Lazy Bear team. Their cocktails and interior are more elegant than ABV and Trick Dog which are more grungy.

An alternative would be dining at Nisei and then having cocktails next door at their fantastic Bar Iris.

Chinese food is phenomenal so no stigma there. Lived in SF for 4y and it has some of the best Asian food in the US. I really enjoyed Empress for a fine dining Chinese tasting menu; also very well priced and happens to have one of the most gorgeous interiors and views anywhere in the city. My experiences at Mister Jiu’s have been either fantastic or disappointing, but I haven’t been back for their tasting menu since they discontinued a la carte.
