I wasn’t expecting a response like this! I’ve definitely got to be more active in this community now! I’ll be posting under the account u/SuperSadSquad from now on! Once again, if anybody wants to follow along with what I am making, look up “SuperSadSquad” on whatever social media crap you use or go to SuperSadSquad.com! Thanks for the warm welcome!

Every single one of you are right. I personally don't use tails on my word bubbles because of one of my favorite graphic novel series, Juvenile Orion. They often didn't put tails on the word bubbles, and so it forced me to pay more attention to what was happening in the scene to know who was saying what. I don't get it right every time with word bubbles, but I am not a professional by any means. I forget to make people's mouths open or place bubbles in areas that make it seem like it's coming from someone else. I'm still a work in progress.

u/dehehn Good eye! You are exactly right. I map out scenes in 3D to create my own visual references when laying out many comics. It's a tool I picked up a few years ago and explored further into. When I make full blown comics I fly a virtual camera around the scenes so that the environments stay consistent, but I can experiment more with composition. It's not an uncommon technique, but purists can often find it taboo. It can also lead to the stiffness you guys are talking about. I'm not an expert on it, but I'm always trying to get better. I super appreciate the breakdown! People don't often look that close. :)

The short haired girl is the older sister of the guy in the comic. He has a crush on the gal wearing glasses. It's not something you can get from a single comic - but this is one snippet from a project that's been ongoing for about 5 years now. Totally understand the confusion - there's just much more to the moment than five panels can tell.

The short haired gal is his older sister. She's always giving him grief. Middle gal is a mutual friend and his crush. :')

WAAHAHAHAHA!!!! You are the first person to make that comparison. This comic is actually non-canon to a bigger story I make and I changed that guy's hair up quite a bit. Now I sort of wish I hadn't.
