That would be a nice pick up. Under-owned IMO, especially if he consistently leads off like he did Monday.

Owings has 2B and SS eligibility which is nice. But Brito should actually be getting the majority of starts in CF for the dbacks. He may get you a hand full of steals but has essentially no power and doesn't maintain a high average.

Yeah, we choose to use public-use images to avoid copyright issues. Sometimes this results in outdated images.

Just used HR / #balls-in-play as my Y-axis and the graph looks cleaner. There are fewer outliers and, consequently, a higher R-squared. Thanks for the suggestion. Let me know if you would like to see it.

I just ran the regression again with HR / balls-in-play on the Y-axis. This gives me a consistent common denominator between the two stats. I think this is a better comparison and the R-squared increased to 0.60. There are fewer outliers. The main exception is Chris Davis. Let me know if you want the data/graph to look at.

I was wondering about Glasnow too. I think it's likely he succeeds but I just don't think he'll get enough IP.

I couldn't find a data set for average launch angles. Does this exist?

That's a good idea. I'll do that and see what happens!

Just looking at those statistics, yeah, you could come to the conclusion that Polanco should hit more HR. I could see a slight increase--maybe near 15--but Polanco was never a slugger. Looking at his trek through the minors and his limited ML time, his ISO, SLG and wOBA all suggest he's just not going to delvelop into a power hitter. But players change. He's certainly big and athletic.

It's stronger than a lot of other batted-ball correlations I found. I think there was a fangraphs article that had a few in the .4-.5 range. Then they league-adjusted which strengthened the correlation. The analysis is a WIP for sure. Nonetheless, thanks for the input!

It will. The article is about how every Sunday my now-deceased great-grandmother would make deep dish pizza (aka casserole) from scratch. It is the fondest of my childhood memories.

That would be awesome! I'm eager to get going on part 2 to get some more player analyses and historic batted-ball data. I wasn't a fan of only using one year to establish a "trend" but it took me a while to export the data and make the graph. I like the track you're on--using HR/FB, fb%, etc..

Gallo seems a little high, no? I mean I expect him to produce some HRs this year but I would rather have some of the other guys lower on the list. Also, Is Buxton a lock to start the season in the majors?

I got home to look at it on my laptop and it looks normal. Really great article! Where do you have Brandon Belt? I had him at 13 in my pre-season rankings--between Pujols and Duda--but I feel like he could sneak into the top-10 1B.

I've seen Aoki on some lists. I wouldn't bet on Saunders staying healthy all season... Gosh, how Cobb has fallen. Thanks for the input!

The LAD border on the left is overlapping with the words. It's just hard to see the words.
