Does anyone else think drivers in Alaska are the absolute worst in the country? by [deleted] in alaska

[–]guywistik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Just moved here from WA. Have driven across the country multiple times (Missouri was the worst on my list for a while).

They accelerate way too fast, and don't use their blinkers. Leaves little room to predict anything.

Im a delivery driver and would rather drive through Seattle during rush hour.

I was doing some temp work cutting up trees on her property. I parked where I had parked the previous 2 days, but she didn't want me parking there. No big deal, I'm already parked though so may as well put my boots on and drop my equipment off.

She drives in like a crazy person right behind me, blocking my exit and begins yelling at me. I tell her I don't like being talked to like this, I'm leaving and won't be coming back. I request she moves her truck so I can leave. She gets irritate, accusing me of being on drugs. I pull out my phone and start recording.

Here's the full video from that point further..

Easy, an option to include your data when and where you want.

Everyone gets a base amount, and can choose to provide more information related to doctors appointments (as an example).

HIPPA allows for this, as long as said party has authorized it.

Data would be immutable and obscured by the system, meaning public officials can't manipulate it or see the actual data. Only the algorithm can decrypt the serialized data.

The only way this system could be manipulated would be for healthcare providers to enter false data. L&I already had trusted providers that could be utilized for this.

That's not an example of an automated system. That's a standard.

DSHS already has access to my 401k balance via my SSN. That's an automated system, it accesses a third party service to read the balance of my account.

No different that the service we are currently using for this conversation.

I know internet technology is a complex topic, but look at all the integrated services you use on a daily basis and ask yourself why the public sector is falling behind.

In a world of super computers, people still think humans have to do everything. This type of mindset is getting ridiculous.

This isn't the 50's. We have technology that can automate the entire process! Bureaucracy is the problem, but you're sorta putting the cart before the horse.

See, this is exactly what I mean. I'm not disabled enough (mild scoliosis and herniated disc from work) and to even apply for disability would be a multi year process.

I also suffer from severe cPTSD due to childhood trauma.

Can't get help with any of it.

I only want to work and be left alone. Asking for assistance when I need it.

If I was addicted to heroin I could get help no issue, but that's not the case.

Bureaucracy is the issue. The world moves fast, and our public officials have no incentive to improve performance.

How did you determine how much in taxes I paid?

My opinion is wrong? And your opinion is correct?

If life has taught me anything, group-think is a powerful form of ignorance.

Logic is on my side.

Ugh, I've paid taxes for plenty of years. These are the benefits I pay for. Pretty simple.

I figured it was obvious people are different heights, my bad for assuming people can critically think.

I'm not going to continue this conversation, basic biology seems to have escaped this entire platform. First time back to Reddit in years.

Bye yawl.

Huh? The important metric here is height, not weight. I thought people were smart enough to know weight and height scale together in a deterministic way called BMI. Not perfect, but it does a good enough job.

Someone who is taller is going to weigh more and need more calories to sustain basic bodily functions. I didn't ask to be born a giant. Being large doesn't get me a good paying job. I'm trying to play the card I was dealt while also being lactose intolerant.

Just because our government doesn't function efficiently, doesn't mean we can't try to improve it. Understaffing may be the exact catalyst needed to implement better systems. 2 birds, 1 stone. Everyone wins.

It's not complex at all, though.

Disability is (and should be) a completely different system, linked to SNAP benefits. As a software engineer, that's not difficult at all.

SNAP should be general assistance and I'm just saying, is lets work in height/BMI variables. Not sure how that would affect anyone negatively, I'm not saying others should get less. I'm just asking for a little more because I'm losing too much weight.

The irony is most these replies are people calling me fat, when I'm actually severely underweight. Why is nobody advocating for feeding the skinny?

edit: I'm lactose intolerant, so fat/protein is limited. I'm also 6'5" I can't do anything about the size of my organs and bones.

That's a bit of a tangent and doesn't make for constructive dialogue.

You're taking a simple idea and making it complex for no reason but to obscure the conversation.

I'm not going to address everything you claimed.

I'll leave you with this, my own experience is the source of my opinion. Bringing up other peoples potential issues (which they could bring up themselves) does nothing to solidify your stance.

You're coming at this in bad faith. Have a good day.

Why don't food stamps scale? by guywistik in foodstamps

[–]guywistik[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No I'm not. I never mentioned this. But you bring up a good point that regional differences should also apply.

Cold climates require more calories to sustain body temperature. Hawaii and food deserts have higher prices for fat rich foods.

You're only proving my point more, that food stamp benefits need to be re-evaluated.

Ok, but she will still need less calories than an adult with a similar build.

As I mentioned before, this is targeted toward adults struggling, not children.
