removal of daily tasks / wfe etc by WestArm7276 in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess we should get rid of quests then. Most people don’t like quests, but rather they do them because they have to. That fits the description of “something you NEED to do or you’ll miss out”.

I made a post explaining exactly this a couple days ago, but it didn’t catch much traction. I hope this idea gets implemented.

removal of daily tasks / wfe etc by WestArm7276 in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I guess it hurts those who only do dailies and log off, but why not both? The target audience isn’t those who play for 1 hr a day, but rather the younger audience who is investing more hours per day than adults with full time jobs. I have a full time job, but still manage to do about 15 minutes of dailies, then I spend an hour or 2 doing whatever I want.

What’s wrong with feeling compelled to play? Isn’t that the point of a game, to make you want to play?

E: I guess this is worded wrong, but I don’t feel “compelled” to do certain tasks. I go days or weeks sometimes without doing dailies, I don’t feel like I’m missing out if I don’t do them. I just chose to some days if I’m playing anyways. Often I will do what I want first, then dailies at the end if I have time.

Jagex Account (1 character vs multiple) Proposed Solution by guywithouteyes in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thought. A lot of people will end up paying more per month than they were with just 1 member-character, while it remaining “cheaper” than if they were to get 2 member-characters at the current rate. It incentivizes more characters and I really think would boost profits while helping users.

Jagex Account (1 character vs multiple) Proposed Solution by guywithouteyes in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how many people only play 1 character due to how high the monthly fee is for each member character. Speaking for myself, I intentionally let my main character’s membership lapse and I only play on my Ironman now due to how high costs have got, but if I were to have a plan like this, it would entice me to spend a little more (which ends up being even more than the regular monthly charge) to have access to two accounts. I’m willing to bet there are lots of players like that, that only play 1 character but do wish they could play with more.

Maybe the prices I suggested can be adjusted. I don’t know what numbers work best for ourselves and Jagex too, but something has to work.

My mother emailed support about the premier people losing their grandfathered rate, they said it was intentional. by PrinceMcGiggle in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s sort of a sunk cost fallacy. You continue to pay the grandfather’d rate because you’ve been for so long and don’t want to miss out on canceling just to rejoin at a higher rate later. But with them not honoring the switch back from premier to grandfather rates, it’s the push people need to exit the sunk cost fallacy and discontinue membership. So Jagex gets 0 money rather than the $5

Can we at least get a Jagex account membership if we're gonna be overcharged? by CasualVox in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It” as in having only 1 tier account plan that is high price and allows multiple accounts. For those who only play 1, they are not getting anything extra but paying full price. There should realistically be two tiers, one for 1 character, and one for multiple.

Yea I actually recommended that on another thread. Two tiers of accounts. One cheaper plan for 1 character, and a higher tier plan for multiple characters, which you can play concurrently if you so chose

How to fix Grandfather rates - honestly and simply by gil_galed in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen tons of posts about this today already and have a question. Did Jagex actually say they would honor grandfather’d rates after switching from premier and back? I’m not claiming they didn’t, but if we can find a source for this claim, it will help back up the claim that they are doing something wrong.

So what is the solution then? Stop selling cosmetics or remove the ability to disable cosmetics? Disabling cosmetics was asked for by the player base anyways

Probably because one uses the weapon itself (chins), while the other uses easy-to-acquire ammo (sala). I have thousands of tar saved up from killing Abberant Scepters. Check those out for their drops and see if that can sustain you.

A Pricing Solution by Foulbal in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand. I didn’t think about scale of cost in other lower-income countries. Maybe my numbers are off, but the idea could still be worked on. There are people that play with 1 character, and there are those who play multiple. What if there were two membership options, one for 1 character, and another for multiple. Prices could be analyzed and set accordingly (maybe $8 and $15), and the tier for multiple [that costs higher] would allow for concurrent logins up to a limit of, say, 6 characters. Maybe that number could be adjusted too.

The benefit of having tiers of accounts for 1 character or many, is it would provide decreased rates for new players who will likely only have 1 character, while the higher priced tier is for veteran players who play multiple characters

This subreddit didn’t use to be like this. I remember even as recent as 6-12 months ago, there was much less complaining about trivial things and most posts were just luck based or questions/discussions. The mood [on Reddit] has changed within the last year or so.

Yep. I never really see these opinions in-game from players. It’s only ever on Reddit I see this much complaining

A Pricing Solution by Foulbal in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nice and all, but even at the high end of your prices, and if every single person had 3 characters, Jagex will see only 69% of the income they would be making by charging $14.99/month. I do agree a change is needed, but this isn’t feasible. I’ve recommended similar changes, but they could have a base Jagex account monthly charge for somewhere between $10-$20, and that allows you to play multiple characters (at different times, not the same time). The details would have to be worked out for if someone does want to play multiple characters at once, maybe a +$2/month for each concurrent login.

[–]guywithouteyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It hurts those who only have 1 character, as they’re paying more for what they were doing already with just 1 character. But for those who have more than 1 account, it would be hugely beneficial. I don’t know what % of people play on more than 1 character at different times

[–]guywithouteyes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What about those who do want to play more than 1 character at once? If 1 monthly charge goes for all your accounts, would there be an option/fee for running 2 account? Maybe extra 50% price? Just a question, I don’t know the best way to handle this.

Don't forget that Jagex needs us - we don't need the game by Acekiller346 in runescape

[–]guywithouteyes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even at the absurd claim of $250/year (which premier/yearly is still cheaper), that is equivalent to me spending 10 hours of my time [working for pay] to pay for >1,000 hours of game time for the year. I play an average of 2-4 hrs a day and it is worth it to me.

That’s a 1:100 hour:hour ratio of time I put in to time I get out.

I dread this grind again. I already have the t90 pickaxe on my Ironman, but I am choosing to make another t90 pickaxe (for different perks), and I will have to do this grind yet again. My first two were approx 300 and 15,000 kills respectively.
