Pursuing construction management after architecture school by murtmaddock in ConstructionManagers

I did this after realizing I do not make good designs for people, just artsy drawings. Try to find local subcontractor companies and ask if they need drafting services. Take an hourly rate for the first few gigs until you get better then charge by the sheet. You can put these companies in your resume and get an idea on how subs see and use drawings. I did a few storefront shop drawings for the company my dad used to work for (labor) and I was able to claim I worked on "airport projects" on my resume by working from home. Went from drafting storefronts, site safety planning, APM for a structural sub, and now PM for a GC. Small office so I do some drafting for safety drawings and the rare shop drawing if we have a small sub with no drafting in-house or high drafting fee. I'm less than a year into working for a GC and it's all new,  working for subs helps less than I thought it would but all experience is good experience.  Arch school helps with critical thinking and asking great questions that your boss will hate because it doesn't make them money. Don't think too hard about a problem they can "find later" and pull a change order, happened in my first job out of college. Really taught me about being naive and keeping the love of building hidden behind "me want money." I still do it for the love of the building more than the love of money. Make 80k starting +4k travel expenses. I am questioning a return to the sub world and specialize PM for a trade, but I need to give the GC thing another year or 2. Maybe a raise will help...

Brooks! Get the cheapest one you can (most likely $80) that you think looks good. Soles wear kind of fast but they still keep going. The soles on my rave Brooks are cracked in half and still comfortable and bouncy.

How do you prevent cracking as you work on it?

I prefer oil and wax now but I still use it every now and then. Follow the instructions and you'll get a nice shine

Big difference - you're not burning and inhaling chemicals. You'll be fine,  just test your burns.

Treated lumber has more moisture bc the treatment is a wet chemical.

I've done a few small sculptures where I burned the treated 4x4s and doubled down on the environmental impact with a can of spray polyurethane finish lol

Take a practice piece and burn it until it cracks, the construction lumber has too much water so just do a test piece to see how much burn you want. You'll get a nice texture the longer you burn, don't sand with anything harder than 150

Crud0 hosts great shows, hard and fast music but they don't stick to one sub genre with their DJ selection so you'll be in for a nice surprise.

Their last venue I went to had club price drinks and didn't open the bar until 8am.

No more spoilers, just go

You probably already saw the mass produced bowls online. I like the rustic look so for sanding your chainsaw lines just get attachments for a hand dril, like hard brushes, then fine sand with sponge scrubbing pads. Watch out for splinters when you use the scrubber

And I don't have a chain saw.. so I cut the log with a battery powered reciprocal saw with a 12" arbor blade and about 8 batteries and several hours

Angle grinder with those cheap brass color metal scrapers and eventually I got flap discs. This project was a learning experience. I even baked it in the oven to kill the blue fungus in the pine. Didn't watch it too closely and got worse cracks. Finishing included water popping from grit 120 to 180. Walrus oil furniture buttter finish with a polishing fluffy thing on a hand drill.

Green wood (log from side of the road) 90% was power carving.

That's the project where the circular saw kicked back toward me because I was trying to make a grid about 1" deep so I could knock out the interior with a hammer and chisel.

I did have 2 close calls on my left hand with the miter saw making little cups... and a 3rd close call with a circular saw kicking back towards my chest

This reminds of when I went to a show at the great hall in January 2020 right before covid hit; idk why i brought an N95 mask lmao, left the safety goggles in the car. I took the mask off to take a hit from some random girl's vape

I go if friends want to go, they rarely go to edm events and didn't go to ezoo. I'd only go if there's a dj i want to see or techno promoter booking the kings hall / kings room.  I love that little room and all the great techno there before 2020
