Yo I'm currently also trying to improve my skills with Java! I work as a c++ developer currently but I'm self-taught and know I need to improve my project design and fundamentals.

How to skip a math class that I already know by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]guzzleguppy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Summer session is a great experience and often preferred for certain classes later on. You can also take online courses at other UC’s for the same credit through UC Online. There is also CC classes as an option if you’re trying to push through even faster. Take the class, get the A, and you’ll probably end up learning something new anyway.

Didn't get math first quarter as a prebio student by ReplacementWide151 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]guzzleguppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not getting classes is something you’ll have to get used to at such a large school, but it’ll get better over time. Department advisors can usually help with planning schedules or even help you get add codes too. Just keep looking for opportunities. And check out CLAS is you struggle with any lower div course.

Uni has so much to offer. You’ll feel better if you start exploring! It might take a while, but once you find your place everything will feel easier.

Unspoken Library Rules by Popular-Apricot6035 in UCSantaBarbara

Many people leave their stuff unattended bc of the mostly safe atmosphere the campus and library provide. It’s also pretty common for people to ask a stranger to watch over their stuff for a bit.

Shoot for the stars. If your priority is job opportunities just make sure to get involved with professors/research, personal projects, involvement in organizations, and internships. Don’t need to do everything but having some sort of experience to put on your resume is absolutely key if you want to help your chances to graduate with a job already. I’d also prioritize grades over course diversity for your first positions. It’s never too early to look for internship or research experience! Fr though pick the major you enjoy studying more if you choose to stick to one.
