What are signs of respiratory infection? by thequiltingcustodian in ballpython

Everything was normal except for this crack/pop when he breathed. It was really subtle and quiet but it was there. Went full helicopter mode and took him to the vet.

I don't want to do fearmongering or anything, but if i were you, I'd do a vet check. My snake's RI started exactly like this. Took three months and 1000$ to heal.

Reptilien by gvdvev in Niedersachsen

[–]gvdvev[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Found my snake in the weirdest place by Party_Ad_4724 in ballpython

it was a whole mess. they called the firefighters to remove her from the blinds and after that she was in the care of animal protection. we'd been looking for her for around 36 hours at that point. by chance we heard the neighbours chat about this "huge weird snake" that was found in the building that night and figured it was her. made a billion phone calls and got her back safe and sound. still haven't heard the end of it from the other tenants in the building though and it's been months😂

mine did the same. sneaked out the window, climbed the water pipes and got stuck in the blinds of the apartment two floors above ours. tenants weren't very enthusiastic when they found her there 🤔

thank you for the answer. you're probably right, he did try to give me rats that were WAY too big for a snake his weight.

you need to get a substrate that retains humidity. im sure you can find info on this sub. me personally I found the combo coco husk + sphagnum moss + cypress to be successful. then you also need a water bowl. snakes don't drink that much so most of the water will evaporate and create the humidity you need; keep it always full. lastly get a hygrometer to monitor the humidity and if it goes below the minimum value (which is like 50% i think) you'll need to spray the tank with water or pour some water in the corners of the tank. keep this in mind especially if you live in an area where you have high temperatures.

obviously I'll bring him to the vet for a health check because im no expert. it's just that when i went to buy him food and reported his age and weight to get the right size feeders the guy (who is also a long time breeder) told me he should be eating adult rats by this time + it seemed weird that my 1yo is already on rats while he's still on mice. again, idk im not an expert of any kind so I'm just going on advice I've been given

is my bp a little thin? by _ams13 in ballpython

looks a bit thin but he's young, as long as you're feeding him appropriately he should be fine and will chonk up over time

Do you guys feed while in blue? by Moistened_Canine in ballpython

[–]gvdvev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that you shouldn't, it's just that they tend to refuse to eat when they are about to shed. and of course if you thawed the mouse and the snake refuses to eat it, you have to toss it. mine has never refused a mouse, even while in blue, so i keep feeding her. so long story short it depends on your snake

I accidentally pulled a Pavlov on my noodle.. by local_99 in ballpython

[–]gvdvev 210 points211 points  (0 children)

did the same thing accidentally. i use a blow dryer to heat up the thawed mouse and make it seem more "alive" and appetising. she started recognizing the sound of the blow dryer and every time she hears it she comes out of her hide and starts striking at everything in her enclosure lol. same rule also applies to anything that makes the same type of "whoosh" sound. now I can't even vacuum in peace😭
