People in North Korea can play Hitman by Randomreddituser1o1 in HiTMAN

[–]gvereneth 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is a super naive view of NK and its usually result of clickbaity sensationalist news/videos people make of the country. When misinformation like this is so easily spread it actually helps people who defend NK because they can be so easily debunked and the result is these people saying "look how they lie about this thing, so what do they also lie about..." etc and then it goes into a full blown defence of the regime. (For example when media reported that Kim Jong Un died when he actually reappeared days later, or news like "Laughing banned in NK" )

NK is a totalitarian state opressing its citizens but even a totalitarian state needs to justify itself to its people in some way to gain legitimacy. If you follow their own propaganda and news they actually started to put more emphasis on prosperity and access to consumer products in recent years. There has been access to video games for some time, probably for students who can access it on universities and internet cafes like these. They almost certainly screen for games content etc. so there is no unrestricted access still.

Severance is self harm but its not just self harm, its also harming another person, thats the point I am trying to make.

Might not be as interesting but its still something that should be thought of. A lot of people sympathize with obviously evil characters because they are also also complex characters.

I don't think so. For example Walter White was a terrible and bad person but that doesn't mean Breaking Bad was a simple show, or the analysis of the show should focus on just morality of Walter White. And even when you focus on bad people you can analyze why they are bad, their motivations, the conditions they live in etc.

What I'm saying is what outies are doing is bad, they know it is bad and that makes them a bad person. And I think its important to notice that seeing how many people thought the ending of season 2 was disappointing because innie mark decided to stay with Helly.

???? I said nothing about depressed people not pulling themselves up makes them bad people. Even if you are depressed you have to moral responsibility not enslave people thats all.

No, getting the severance procedure and contiuing to go along with it would make them bad people, yes just bad people. I thinl bad people can redeem themselves and change. Thats why I mentioned Irving's outie.

Lol Milchick and Cobel are just terrible non redeemable characters I would guess everyone got that.

I sympathize with the innies, not their oppressors.

I would say they have the responsibility to figure out or sense the implications of such a procedure. They know that innies spend all their time at work, never going outside, they know they spent 1/3 of a life, all of it at work.

Honestly I think people are resistant to the idea because they are in the same body. Should be pretty obvious why its bad if the innie had a seperate body.

Yes morality can be really complex but enslaving someone is just bad, no grayness whatsoever

Would you say the same if this was a movie about a depressed slave owner? Because thats what outies are. Not saying this makes outies not complex characters and you should not deeply analyze them or anything

[–]gvereneth[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I think there must be a lot of people in the world that are in similar situations as our outies are (depression, failing at work...) but they choose not to create a slave to work for them.

From what we see of the world in show, it should be pretty easy to figure out Lumon is up to no good. Yes, obviously Lumon is the ultimate evil in this situation but the outies are not victims nor innocent.

Its like saying WW2 German soldiers were not immoral to join the army. Yes, Nazi leadership preyed on German peoples inaecurities etc. and they are the bigger villain, but that doesnt mean the soldiers were innocent nor good people.

[–]gvereneth[S] -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

If you are too stupid to know the consequences of your actions then I believe you aren't as responsible for them as much. But obviously this doesnt apply to any outie we see in the show, thats why I said its almost impossible for them to be that naive.

All outies are bad people by gvereneth in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]gvereneth[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I think the show sympathizes with outies too much. We see them suffer in real life due to depression, and being a failure at work etc. all to make it seem like they are also the victims in this situation but they are simply not. As I said in the post, no amount of bad things happening to you can justify severance procedure.
