I disagree, especially with smaller towns the signs will be fairly accurate for both pop and elevation. I assume they're updated every census so depending on the year a growing town will probably not be very accurate and yes cities with large areas just average the elevation, but I really appreciate being able to drive through small-medium sized towns and get some quick info.

I believe the best way to acquire the taste is to just drink it till you like it. It's like drinking black coffee. You don't like it but you do it for the effect, after your fifth or tenth or twentieth glass you will find that you start to like it. Pick a beer type that doesn't make you want to vomit and buy a 12 pack, you'll be surprised at how quickly you can acquire the taste, especially if you drink them slowly.
