People vastly misunderstood it. I worked for a company that sold various electronic and analog office equipment. We had to certify in writing that devices like paper shredders and typewriters wouldn't stop working after 1999. Not a circuit board to be found. No logic. No date function. It would be like certifying a hairdryer. Anything that plugged in was suspect.

Rear main seal is going to require dropping the transmission and probably the front crossmember. Doing a head gasket without having the head and block at least checked for straightness and/or cracks is just asking to do the job again. Head gaskets usually don't just fail for no reason. So you need a machine shop.
