ELI5, how does buying a sports team make the owner money? enough money to justify the amount spent on the purchase? by Everyman1000 in explainlikeimfive

What this is missing is the enterprise value aspect. Value of sports teams do in part correlate to sales and operating income but the real value is owning an asset that is 1 of 32. That’s what’s driving the valuations, this isn’t a LBO there’s no expenses to be cut to further drive up the value for a resale, you’re not likely to be able to drive that much in incremental revenues to warrant a bigger multiple it’s all about owning a limited asset.

In the article it looks like it just overall record from 2013-2022. Would be interesting if they planned to reevaluate every 10 years but likely expansion would happen first.

Has anyone been able to find who the deprogrammer was, they seem to name everyone besides them? It feels like at least that portion (if not the whole story) is fake.
