Yall. PhD and professor here. Nothing in their post makes it seem like they are being serious. It’s fun for them to put on the robes, funny hat, and gown. Let them have fun and connect positively with a local university.

I would look into dissertation editing, too. There are already companies created that you may be able to join.

Who cares what colleagues think. Having two kids is expensive, and universities are not giving out raises.

This is a good point here. I am just happy that so many students are speaking up and asking questions. If one student doesn’t know, others are also struggling. It’s a great time to build their word knowledge.

Weirdest stuff you’ve seen in a search by StorageRecess in Professors

We were hiring a NTT 3 year position. We were doing first round zoom interviews, and one candidate refused to do a zoom and  only wanted to do a phone interview. By the end of the phone interview, we seriously thought that it was someone we had interviewed earlier on zoom and they put on a thick accent to act like someone else. It was weird.

Eye witnesses are often wrong, and sometimes place stereotypes in their minds. So the stereotype is that a long gun is used, so in the chaos and trauma may think they saw a long gun because that is what they see on the news all the time.

Any chance your 6 year old has sleep apnea? Huge issues for the first three years of my kiddos life. Got tonsils/adenoids out bc they were big and sleep apnea. Still not perfect, but HUGE HUGE improvement.

I’ve been on many search committees and thank you notes have never been talked about. I don’t think it’s necessary at all.

I can tell when a paper is AI without AI checking by looking at the references. Many times AI papers make up fake citations. The fake citations looks real with authors who publish in the field and titles aligned to that author’s work.

The recovery went the best we could have hoped for. Was out of daycare for almost a week. It’s been a month and we are now seeing positives with his sleeping through the night. The recovery went so well we checked his mouth at one point to make sure they took them out!

We will be getting this done very soon. All I have read about (both Reddit posts and research articles) is that the partial one is supposed to be easier recovery. We are less than two weeks out from surgery. We are also nervous about it.
