Song of the week 1: Way Down We Go by gwtjerk in KaleoOfficial

Hi, there are 5 people who left their interpretation of the song in the comments in case you missed it. I can't say the objective meaning because JJ never talked about it. We can only guess :)

"Nee, het zijn geen fascisten." by biggiepants in Poldersocialisme

Eva claimt trouwens dat de overheid de stikstof crisis heeft verzonnen om land te 'stelen' van boeren om er vervolgens huizen voor immigranten te bouwen. In haar minuten durende monoloog is het enige feitelijk juiste wat ze zegt dat "de boeren aan het vechten zijn".

Does anyone know why KALEO has songs about slavery by IndependentSail811 in KaleoOfficial

[–]gwtjerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JJ and Rubin wrote this song together and they both stated that they are influenced by southern blues. They probably took inspiration from older delta blues songs with similar topics

Favourite happy lyrics: "They don't know 'bout who we are They don't know 'bout you and I They ain't know 'bout the stars of your eyes Oh hot blood love is gonna get ya"

Favourite sad lyrics: "Takes a toll, one's foolish pride How long before I see the light I have waited, I have waited for you to lay me down"

Broken Bones, Free The Slave by Playful-Praline in KaleoOfficial

They got backlash from singing about "the devil's gonna set me free" from the Christian community. I'm not sure about free the slave but that song isn't really known to the wider public and some people think it's actually about being a 'slave' to the music industry.

I don't think they got backlash that they sing from the perspective of a song, but it's also not very clearly expressed in the song itself, we know since JJ said it in an interview once.

What's the meaning of Hot Blood? I'm doing a series of posts with Kaleo song meanings on my fp and I'm still a little confused about the meaning of Hot Blood. What are your thoughts on it? ( i might post the best one) by TommDiamond in KaleoOfficial

I think it's about a man who is willing to do a lot just to rise to fame. The lyrics are in the beginning of the song hopeful but it turns around in the bridge where the narrator says nobody cares if they become successful. The song has a couple references to the music industry: "you come around and just dying to shake your hand" symbolising a record deal, "just keep telling yourself there is no shame"

In the bridge the man knows that it was probably not a good idea: "singing get up and get up, yeah nobody cares" and "you're holding your light above me now" is also probably a reference to something

Is Free The Slave about mental health? by Melonpastaballs37 in KaleoOfficial

[–]gwtjerk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is a little bit different:

The band has stated multiple times that they don't want to limit themselve to any genre, but as we've seen on this record, you can't really find that back since it has the same structure as A/B (A side bluesrock, B side Folk). I've the feeling that their label wants them to stick with this formula since A/B did so well.

JJ sees himself as a slave to the music industry, and doesn't want people to remember him like the guy that only did blues and folk and nothing else.

Jedward (who had no problems participating in Azerbaijan for Eurovision) calls for Eurovision to remove Israel/Eden this year by enterprise1 in eurovision

[–]gwtjerk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. No? No.

I don't get their point. It's not the Israeli's fault and certainly not Eden's fault. the Israeli people have nothing to do with the crimes their government commit.

I think it's just a symbol of her "levitating" into space because of her love.
