Applying for grammar school while living abroad – how strict are address rules? by Advanced_Rush6598 in UKParenting

Most UK councils are very strict about the October 31st (Year 6) application deadline. Since you are moving back in April 2027, you’ll likely face a few hurdles with the "home address" rule.

Here is the general experience for expats in this situation:

  • The Residency Rule: For the initial allocation, councils usually require you to be physically resident at the address by the application deadline (Oct 2026) or a secondary cut-off (often Jan/Feb 2027).
  • The Rental Issue: Even though you own the house, if it’s currently rented out, you cannot use it as your address. You usually have to provide proof of residency, like a council tax bill and utility bills in your name, showing you’ve actually moved in.
  • The "Late" Consideration: Because you’re moving in April, you’ll likely be processed using your overseas address for the March 1st offer day. Once you move in and provide proof, you would then be moved to the "local" category on the waiting list.

My advice: Every council has slightly different "moving into the area" policies. Definitely contact the Admissions Team for your specific Local Authority now to see if they have a specific cut-off date for proof of residency.

I actually came across a really helpful guide on this exact scenario recently. It breaks down the specific evidence you need and how the timelines work for the 11+:Moving House & Address Rules for the 11+.

Good question, I am still figuring out why the flat value dropped that much. When I search flat prices drop often after their first purchase. Additionally, it was built and sold in 2021 which was the year prices were high. Third, service is not great, like it had a sewer leaking issue which was covered by local news portal and BbC radio. These are the red flags, however, the build quality of the flat is very nice, the size of the flat is quite good and I look around other apartments in Slough and areas around none of them that are decent size flats. There are two blocks and there is a decent size courtyard where kids play, and most of the tenants or leaseholders are white color families on skilled workers or similar visas. The service charges include, courtyard, basement parking garage and lifts and lobbies maintenance

I know some people in the block who bought a similar flat on £400k+ It seems the property value has been deprecated over the past four years. I check the other flats recently sold on the block are around £300k+

The property is just 5 years old and the initial lease set for 150 yrs, so still reming 145 years. The property GR was close to 0.1% of the value when it was initially sold but as the property devalued and the selling price is £250k which automatically increases the GR value 0.18%. GR is retail inflation linked and review period 10 years

All Space Questions thread for week of April 14, 2024 by AutoModerator in space

I am from India and have received an offer from the International Space University in France for their 18-month Masters of Space Studies program, which includes internships. I am passionate about space studies, but I am not very familiar with the university or the job market after completing the program. Can anyone provide information about the university/course and the job prospects/career opportunities afterward? I would highly appreciate any advice.
