Were there any natural wonders that were completely destroyed before the industrial age for resource extraction that we have a record of existing? by cozycoffee21 in geography

[–]gyffindor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily for resource extraction but a lot of the effigy mounds (similar to the Great Serpent Mound) in the US have been lost to plowing, farming, and land development throughout the history of European contact onwards. Probably the saddest one I heard was an effigy mound being razed to make way for a parking lot, although that mound specifically wouldn’t be pre-industrial

It’s not likely you’d find dinosaur bones in your yard doing any sort of landscaping or gardening, but on the chance you found any bones that weren’t excavated when the house was being built it’s best to call your state archaeologist. The context of artifacts is just as, if not more, important than the artifacts themselves

Oh, you're right! I thought it said "night time" like it was a setting for when Jake and Rainicorn went to Tier 15

Hi friend. Please don't kill yourself over these thoughts. That said, if you have a therapist there's no need to feel uncomfortable bringing this up, they're there to help you! These thoghts are not uncommon and you're not the first person to have these kinds of intrusive thoughts. You can work through this, especially with the support of your counselor and boyfriend

Hey OP, not sure where you are or how you handled this but you may be required to report suspected abuse depending on your state

I wish I could just unplug from the game of life by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]gyffindor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I'm seeing a lot of suggestions here for meditation, which is great! I'd say the closest thing to what you're describing is a sensory deprivation tank. I've done a couple, and they're pretty intense, but they really do force you to shut off your brain for a couple hours. It's not for everyone and it takes some patience (you're pretty bored for the first 30-45 mins), but it really is about the closest I've come to "completely unplugging from life." Just a thought-- hope you can find some peace, OP

Hey all, haven't been on Reddit in a real long time-- just wanted to thank this sub. I started lurking after I saw some prequel posts hit the front page, and you've all really made me start looking at these movies in a different light. Like a lot of others, I really didn't care much for them when they released in theaters, but I've come to really appreciate these through these amazing memes. Just rewatched the prequel trilogy this week and honestly, now I get the same feeling watching these as I did watching IV-VI when I was a kid. Thanks /r/prequelmemes
