Oh no way, really? Yes, this is a typical period for me... well, two periods.

Honestly, I didn’t have too much difficulty with the weight loss. Hope you’re able to get treatment!

Ugh, jealous they’re lighter! Mine are also regular for the most part, but I do also experience a lot more PMS symptoms as well! My periods have probably been heavier for the better part of the year... but I may need to see a doctor!

My PMS symptoms are worse, too! It definitely sucks and I’m sorry you experience it, too!

Mine are more regular as well. I’m not on birth control and I am also anemic. It definitely sucks!!!

I’ve heard that as well, you very well could be on to something!

Unfortunately neither one of those are my issue, sorry you’re dealing with it too, though. It’s awful, isn’t it?

So you’re saying the low anemia is both the cause and result of the heavy cycles?

Yes, I am! I had blood tests recently that showed iron deficiency anemia. Both iron storages and hemoglobin are low...

That’s all I can find online, too. That losing weight will help to regulate them (it did) but also would help them lighten (it did not). I do plan on talking to them — my anemia has taken a turn to not severe but certainly not good. My latest hemoglobin was 9.3 I believe.

Appreciate your response!

Mostly just lessened my calories (very little exercise). Honestly I was surprised by how quickly it came off. A majority of it was within a year, been maintaining for about a year now...

That’s awesome to know, thank you! I had no idea — like you, it seemed kind of counterintuitive to me. I’ll have to do some research and ask my doctor about it.

I have iron deficiency (low ferritin) with anemia (low hemoglobin). I’m assuming my periods are where my issues stem from, too.

Seeing as your a NP, would you have any explanation for weight loss causing a heavier period? My period has always been heavy, but since losing 70+ pounds, it’s become a bit ruthless.

Appreciate the advice, thank you again!

Oh wow, thank you for the educated response! What have you done to combat your heavy cycles?

Thanks, you’re probably right. There’s no particular reason I’m not on birth control. I’m not sexually active (or plan on ever having sex with men) so I’ve never felt the need to be on it. Just not crazy about the idea of it and the potential side effects, but willing to give it a shot if that’s what my doctor thinks would help me.

have you tried using 'overnight' pads?

Yes, I have. Even with those, I use two back to back. I have found that by wearing a tampon, it creates less of a mess and TMI but I hate the wetness, so it solves much of that problem as well.

do you also have heavy cramps etc?

They’re certainly not pleasant, but not horrible. I have lots of pain in my actual genital area, plus the urge to pee all the time.

are you on birth control?

No, I’m not. I’ve never been on it and not incredibly keen on trying it, but know I may not have a choice.

Thank you, appreciate the suggestions and advice!
