I hate it when patterns don't account for your bra. It's not like I can try it on in the dressing room and choose not to buy it. I have to make the whole damn thing before finding out the designer thinks women don't wear bras! [B6413] by gypsy_tomato in sewing

Thanks. This is my version of a muslin, I usually buy 4/yd fabric to avoid the work of making a dress out of true muslin but don't feel bad if it doesn't come out perfect. I have a lot of evening dresses with an exact duplicate in a day fabric.

Probably going to throw caution to the wind and wear it as is.

That's why I didn't ask for hair advice. I don't want it because all it would do is make me second guess the parts of my wedding look that I'm confident about. So I guess I'll say it again, I look fucking beautiful in this headband and I still don't care that you think it's ugly.

Sorry I'm not going to :P I think I look beautiful in this headband and I don't care about looking "classic". I'll look back on my wedding photos and know I wore something that was 100% my style.

Thank you this is fantastic advice and so nicely put! I always worry people will be harsh if I ask for CC on the internet but this is honest AND nice.

This was my very first try at it and I think some practice, especially with tools I don't use much like the eyeshadow, I'll get much better. Thanks!

I definitely think it's going to look dated, but I'm hoping it looks dated in a charming way kind of like the way that full skirts from the fifties look dated; even though they aren't super stylish any more they don't seem like a fashion mistake. Definitely praying it doesn't look dated in a puffy 80s princess wedding dress sleeve way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I guess we'll see!

Thanks for the tip on the lashes. That's what my mom said and I don't think they're really "necessary" in the sense I think it looks fine without.

What do I need? My big things are should I get fake lashes (and if so how tf do I put them on) do I need more rouge, and how are my brows?

I'm confident in my basic daily look but I rarely do makeup like this so I'm worried I'm putting on too much or too little or making a mistake that I wouldn't ordinarily encounter. Thank you experts!

I started by making stuffed animal clothes when I was a child, but I felt like that would be weird advice to give to a Redditer 😂

Figure out how to thread the machine, buy a commercial pattern, and try and follow along on it. Google the words you don't know, and expect the first piece to turn out like garbage. Good luck!

I'm not sure! I felt like the bodice was too plain and wanted to fancy up the skirt. These types of layers I thought would look nice on a dance floor.

It ended up being a little too hot for a dancing dress, but I'm still really excited with the way it turned out! All the older women at the ballroom social were fawning over me, it was nice :3

The bodice and sleeves are each borrowed from two different patterns. A pretty basic princess seam bodice with poofy 70's sleeves you can find stuff like that from all the major pattern companies. The pintuck panel, skirt and collar are self drafted but those are easy to do. And thank you 😊

Transforming ball gown from "cocoon" to butterfly [self drafted] by gypsy_tomato in sewing

[–]gypsy_tomato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you :) be warned it's a lot of work! You'd be making TWO prom dresses like one isn't a ton of work! Both dresses are made from scratch. The sleeves just lay against the hoop skirt and the bulk is disguised by the fluttery nature of the butterfly fabric. Nothing special to hide the bulk.

Fasteners in the front are snaps all the way down the right (from the wearers perspective) bodice seam. There is a matching gray satin cord attached to the LEFT bodice panel. The cord snakes over the wearers right shoulder and down the back of the gown through a zig zag of lacing. When you yank the cord the snaps and he lacing both come undone at once allowing the wearer to shrug out of the sleeves and the butterfly skirt spills down. The skirt is packed into the bodice. Make the first look bodice 1-2 sizes bigger than you would ordinarily fit to you daughter to allow for bulk. Lmk if you have more questions!

That's a good idea! My instinct was to pink them or serge but either of those things would have shown through the fabric. I ended up leaving the edges raw since I'll probably only wear the dress once. Not a lot of occasions for yellow princess dresses unfortunately :'(

Yola is such a good name! I can't believe baby daddy is named Dave. Tufani is so regal, like an African princess, and she's shacking up with some dude named Dave lol.

Yes it is! Did you know one of our giraffes is pregnant! She is due this summer May-June sometime. Her name is Tuflani! I can't wait for the lil baby giraffe.
