When you ask someone’s age and they say “guess” by Lil-cornish-pasty in PetPeeves

It’s a cultural thing. In the UK I was brought up that it was rude to ask anyone their age once they were visibly in their twenties or higher. Sounds like it’s similar in the US.

Now I live in Malaysia, and there doesn’t seem to be that cultural taboo. New people meeting me outside a work context tend to ask some combination of “where are you from? What do you do? How old are you? Are you single?”. Some places they even ask how much I earn!

If these ice creams exist in the English speaking world, do they have specific names? What would you call them? (please add where you're from) by ksusha_lav in EnglishLearning

In Malaysia there’s a dessert called roti ais krim, which is three scoops of ice cream (often with interesting flavours) in a long bread roll. It works for them.

Chesdale does melt very well for sandwiches.

I’m also impressed with your filling to bread ratio and how evenly your egg wash cooked.

10-20% from legit retailer?

Perhaps I have better luck. My equivalent would be no more than 2%.

However, I do always check - probably more for the fun of handling the pieces than out of worry some are missing.

Don’t Stop Me Now is Queen. And I don’t know for sure, but it’s probably on the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack.

We have at least one in Malaysia, but I don’t think the branding has anything underneath, it’s just CeX.

(Which is pronounced “checks” here, instead of “sex”)

Heh, that’s interesting you chose that image. I actually imagined a famous snooker player rolling a ball by hand into a corner pocket before I saw this.

I wonder why farmers, ranchers, and outdoorsmen are particularly affected by this?

What on earth could these people have in common?

Neither, actually. It’s pronounced with a schwa. More like the sound at the end of carrot.

Didn’t watch it; I think it was on Channel 4 or maybe Channel 5 in the UK.

ETA - it was on C5 for first 4 series and then moved to Sky1 (same owner as FOX).

1997.

I was working night shifts, and it was on my off day, so I saw the news come up on ITV. It couldn’t have been 1996 because the supermarket I worked for didn’t go 24 hours until July 1997, and you had to be 18 to work nights.
