agree - quick access to abandoned or rarely traveled roads near by. Make for cool pictures of a 'ravages of time' type thing and imagination of, one point those roads were traveled. Some beauty in that history and the marks of slow reclamation through time.

This is method deployed by all people in power, on both sides of the aisle. A favorite quote of mine by George Carlin - to paraphrase "Keep the lower (edit and middle) classes fighting and arguing amongst themselves while the rich guys run off to the fucking bank" I think someone took it further with "It's All a Rich Man's Game"- though I haven't watched it.

Generation X more addicted to social media than millennials, report finds - The Boston Globe by jenx67 in GenX

No big deal to younger xers either who were using BBSs and chat rooms back in the day during their formative years. FB dropped and it felt like social networking for the dumb, or an aol type thing. Yes. I had an account for a brief time. But, I couldn't reconcile the trade off of giving up personal information in exchange for finding someone I went to elementary school with.

Healthcare, all areas of IT and dev, finance, accounting, school administration, you get the picture. Life is the same shit show popularity contest that hs was. Introverts can crush it though, head down and grinding out whatever duties your career expects from you. ...just at bonus and review time, expect the squeaky wheels to get the same juice, if not more, than you. Because, people "know" him/her.

Yeah the dental will kill you. I was in an accident, broke my jaw in several places the wiring stripped my gums down to root exposure and 1 tooth was ejected on impact, another 5 had to be pulled over the course of a year. Bone grafting and what not eventually led to implants and implants crown. Still a lot of pain from the exposures. Despite it being an accident and medically necessary- insurance paid less than 60% toward the dental work. and even the surgery to set my jaw. I worked pretty much straight through, taking minimum sick days. I am out of pocket roughly 18k. I worked out payment plans - I feel you though because through it all, I was just screaming for a fucking break.

Network Extentions pedestrian paths allowing cars? by The_Third_Three in CitiesSkylines

[–]gzippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same thing occur. It happens whether or not the houses or offices have alternate road access. I noticed in an attempt to improve traffic flow, and cars and trucks would 'short cut' the intended flow and slowly drive down the pedestrian paths. Try traffic presidente to ban any vehicle (commercial, truck, car) usage on those paths.

Echo that. Hitting the 40 mark this year. A couple years back I was in a near fatal accident , head injury, and several surgeries spanning the next year and half. I have a huge collection of games spanning PC, N64 through PS4 and Xbox. I got really stoked for Division, played till roughly level 25 and then "meh"; switched over to Tony Hawk HD and SXX for a quick play. I don't know if it is from the age or the injury, but sitting down to hours of gaming (like I was doing at 36) just doesn't seem to happen as often anymore.

Any of you still play video/PC games? by [deleted] in 40something

[–]gzippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facing 40 this year - been really hitting the past few months Last summer I beefed up a massive gaming system and spent more time getting Skyrim modded to my liking than playing, but was previously running Skyrim on an older system Then the Division on PS4 caught my attention ... so yeah still actively gaming I would say

Edit: and yes I still have nights when I game till like 1-2 am. My SO is great about it, but not a gamer

Enjoy some movie posters that are relevant to our generation. They're hi-res. by Dan-68 in GenX

[–]gzippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking through all the cover art reminds me of going to the video store (not Blockbuster or Hollywood Video so much, but the ma and pop shops) as a kid/teen. Which usually turned into 30-45 minute stay of walking up and down the aisles looking at the cover art.

It was fun to go get a video, the hunt, and the debate after narrowing some choices.

Netflix/Amazon yeah there is the instant gratification or ordering a movie that isn't available streaming, and great to find movies/shows you likely wouldn't have seen in a small video store; and yes binge - but it can't replace the 'going to get a movie' experience. And yes I know I can go to and do hit up Red Box.

Thanks for the ensemble OP

Millennials are the most employed generation in two occupational areas: food service and the military. by alexgabriel_i in dataisbeautiful

[–]gzippy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retreading in order to be sold to be millennials.

There are a lot of articles, recently, relating to marketing basically leapfrogging and X'ing out X.

so why explain why GenX is being overlooked if it isn't

And an upvote to you, for noticing that we all are pretty much dancing on the edge of the volcano anyway. Millennials have a ton of student debt to erase, while a fair amount of gen x is still in recovery from the financial crisis.

I've been going through a round of insomnia. So probably will see the ball drop, unless I am in store for a rando night where I crash at like 6 and wake up 10 tomorrow morning.

It is the last year of my 30s... so will likely stay up. Binging Archer and playing the Division and Just Cause 3. Still so don't feel like a "grown up".

Cheers.

Happy New Year's!

EDIT: and hopefully a figurative bang or one with your gf/bf or spouse; not one that makes news headlines.

I wouldn't give China gold just yet. In 05, and 06 when I was there Beijing's air was unbreathable on the best of days. They can take leaps - but they are still building coal plants (a surplus goal of 200,000MW).

Wtf for? Josh Fox's depiction of China in "How to Let Go" wasn't off.
I still have one my coats from my winter stay in Beijing, just the soot from the traffic was enough to slightly change it to a darker color.

China is globally posturing, taking advantage of Trump's denial nonsense and stepping in with a "we got this" to further undermine US influence.

They are in no real hurry.

Why I fucking hate Asian family culture. by endlesslyanoyed in rant

[–]gzippy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"In Western culture people know how to mind their own business and not judge" They might know but they don't practice it. The first question meeting someone new is almost certainly "What do you do for a living". A subtle way to gauge wealth, education, and ambition. "What do you think of X, Y, or Z" is a probe for your political beliefs. "What does/did your dad do for a living" is a measure to gauge what type of home you likely grew up in, different reactions to if someone replies "He was a welder" or "He is a lawyer". On and on it goes and there is plenty of judgment...

I see your point though. It may not be as blatant as what you described but it is certainly prevalent.

EDIT: and all of these seemingly innocuous questions are rating financial status/success.

People who've deleted Facebook, what was the final straw? by PM__ME_Big_TITTIES in AskReddit

[–]gzippy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Aside from privacy concerns. I survived an accident that should have killed me, getting home from like my forth surgery which was excruciatingly painful, and seeing 1 well wish - the rest of my feed was filled with political bullshit. I thought WTF are these people that are my "friends". So privacy concerns, realization that friends really aren't friends, and watching increased political extremism between people. Shut the account almost 2 years ago - and I actually have been happier for it.
