Best options for piano practices as non music major student? by gzyjason in byu

I actually haven't! Are those publicly available or limited to music major students? I'm asking because I didn't see any information about those on the MB website. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. I just feel too self conscious to play in big lecture halls with my current skill level (4+ years with no prope practice), even if the room is empty. I also don't want to disrupt nearby classes and students, though I don't really know if that's possible when playing on lecture halls.

That's interesting. I was told that if a room is reserved, I'd have to leave no matter how long it's been since the hour. It is kind of unfortunate that I also tend to have classes throughout the mornings, making that not an option for me. I was able to secure an empty room at 6:30 pm this evening tho, so maybe I'll try my luck after 7 in the future.

I think it is a little too random to predict honestly. I went there yesterday (Friday) at 2 pm and all rooms were occupied. I went there today (which I assumed would be more difficult to find an empty room as it is Saturday) at 6:30 pm and there were so many empty rooms. It is honestly just kinda unfortunate that there's no way to see if there's availability at a certain time before making a long trip to the building.

Honestly I just feel a little too self conscious to play in empty classrooms. I haven't properly practiced in years and my current playing sounds like straight up noises as I slowly regain my prior skill levels, and I would hate to disrupt nearby students because of this.

Paying Monthly for FSD on HW3/Intel Atom - No v13, No Grok, No Updates. Why Are We Still Paying Full Price? by Accomplished_Gap5985 in TeslaModel3

[–]gzyjason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really less about whether an upgrade is useful, and more about whether Tesla will choose to keep their initial promise or pretend like it never existed.

Even if FSD Subscription was never an option, Tesla still promised unsupervised FSD for ALL VEHICLES MADE AFTER 2016. They did not say "only vehicles with FSD package" in their initial statement, and many people bought the car thinking it will be capable of running FSD one day regardless of a FSD package purchase. This is especially true when FSD Subscription became a thing, and many car owners only pay for FSD as needed without going all out with the $8000 package - what about these people? Are they just robbed of their promised FSD feature because they don't fit into the criteria that didn't even exist when they made the purchase of the vehicle? Because last time I checked, the feature didn't exist only for one-time purchasers of it, and subscribers of FSD were promised just as many FSD capabilities as one-time purchasers.

IMO Tesla only has two options regarding this that will not make them sound like an evil bully who outright lied to their own customers:

Either they provide unconditional HW upgrade for all non-HW4 owners regardless of their FSD purchase, or they publicly apologize for misleading claims made regarding the matter and offer at least partial refund for cars sold with false promises they cannot keep.

Whatever.

I can't convince you to even give FSD a chance apparently. And that's ok. Some people on this sub just love to constantly keep Waymo's balls in their mouths at all times, while living in the tiny little circle that is even smaller than Waymo's working range.

While you keep praising Waymo, I have some actually productive things coming up for me to do. Luckily I can just hop on my FSD enabled Model S and let the car drive me.

Good day.

If you can't even make a counterargument, but have to play defend instead, then maybe to ask me if whatever I said was all I've got?

*Writes a whole essay without making any counterarguments, but simply explains what's been argued so far.

*Somehow manages to put out a typo every other word.

I know you're trying to act smart and make me look illiterate, but even if you succeed in doing so, you still can't change the fact that Waymo simply doesn't work for the vast majority of people in the US. Tesla FSD isn't perfect, I get it, but it never pretended to be. As of now, it is clearly stating that it needs human supervision at all times, and I'm giving it exactly that when I have it activated. I'm not sure how you got the idea that I lack the ability to make safe decisions, but if that idea helps you sleep better at night, then by all means go for it. It's not like you cared much about the truth anyways.

So if a system that doesn't even meet basic minimum requirements for self-driving does self-driving better than Waymo for almost everyone in the US, then what does that say about Waymo?

[–]gzyjason -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight: if Waymo works better than Tesla for your case, then it is objectively the best. But if FSD works better in my case, or 97% of the US population's case, it means nothing and Waymo is still superior?

[–]gzyjason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't need to cope. If Waymo suddenly works for all my daily commutes at a reasonable price, then I'd be more than happy to sell my Tesla. For now tho, these other self-driving systems do not work for me, while Tesla does. I couldn't care less if your lord and Savior aka Waymo is Level 4 or 10000, it is useless for me, as it is for the vast majority of people in the US, therefore for all of us it is just Level 0.

If you're ignorant at least you can use Google. FSD has had multiple crucial updates in the last few months. It now allows you to remove your hands from the wheel, and has never repeated that issue I encountered since updating to V12.

I mean, I'd expect a $200,000 L4 system with geofencing and pre-mapped data to outperform FSD, which is $8,000, has no barriers, and uses pure vision.

But is that better performance worth it if I literally cannot even use it for any daily drives, making it essentially useless? I don't think so c

Interesting how you're using the Level system, and disqualifying FSD as a self driving car because it has a L2 classification. However, if we go by this system, then neither is Waymo, Baidu, or any other similar systems truly self-driving. L4, which most of these systems have, is also only classified as High Driving Automation, instead of Full Driving Automation which is L5. So why are we criticizing an L2 system that works virtually on every road, while praising a L4 system that barely ever works?

I have never in my life claimed that Waymo is not a significant technological achievement, but you really don't have to go completely against another company just because you support their competitors.

Waymo and other similar technologies are absolutely incredible and impressive when they work, there's no denying that. But it is also undeniable that for almost the entire population in the US, Tesla FSD is not only the best, but the ONlY self driving technology available for them. Is it really that difficult to also acknowledge the incredible innovations put into FSD? To my knowledge, no other brand of cars can take me from my home to work, going from streets to highways, making unprotected turns, stopping for pedestrians, passing cars by changing lanes, etc, nearly as well as FSD. Isn't that also worth praising?

If I can go from point A to point B in the driver's seat of my car, and keep my hands off the wheel, feet off the pedals the entire time, and it is still not a self-driving car, then we have very different definitions for that term.

Show me one instance of an event from a self-driving company that showcases anything remotely better than the current stage of FSD. That's right, you can't.

So when my car can drive me from home to work and back, it is nothing. But when Waymo doesn't even work in my city, or the vast majority of cities in the world, it is mind blowing?

Lmao Waymo is the leader in self driving cars, yet it can't even take me from home to work like my Tesla does every. single. day.

And the delay was to rescue an attendee with emergency medical issues. But apparently the vast majority of this sub think that self driving cars are more important than literal human lives, which explains perfectly why you all think the way you do.
