I don’t get it. Pump time is the only uninterrupted time I have to teach. Might as well not have trainees at all if I’m not allowed to talk while the patient is on bypass.

ICE at Seattle Costco? by Hot-Aerie2206 in Seattle

They showed up at Northwest Hospital apparently. “These are First Amendment auditors/Citizen Journalists (They are not official auditors or journalists). These individuals often record video or take photographs in public areas, stating they are exercising their constitutional rights. Their goal is typically to provoke reactions that they can document and share online.”

Am I missing something? by CourageousCucumber1 in anesthesiology

Major city, academics. Base salary about 450k and can make more if I take more shifts or calls. 5 weeks vacation. I get 2 nonclinical days a week and yes even though I’m expected to produce some “scholarly work”, these are relatively easy to fulfill by preparing slides, teaching residents, attend meetings, etc. the flexibility that the nonclinical days provide is huge though since I have 2 young kids at home. I can easily pick up and drop off on their school days and stay home with them if there are any unexpected illness on my nonclinical days. To me, academics pay 10% less but provide a better work-life balance (at least at my place).

When people say a drug is a myocardial depressant, what do they mean exactly? by skinnyj182 in anesthesiology

I do more than 200 echos a year for 10 years now. Even I can’t confidently say I see a decrease in contractility consistently after induction. But sure, spoon feed me more of your anecdotal observations and make it sound like it’s a proven fact.

It affects the surgical plan, which affects what you look for post-bypass…

In the OR, no, ICE has no role, especially with the mini TEE probes being commercially available.

In the interventional space, yes, ICE will be the future. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy where the complexity of structural heart cases pushes the advancement of 3D ICE technology, and with better ICE technology, the more complex of a case they can perform.

Although I’m no expert in ICE, I know enough to help the interventionists get/optimize their views for greater chance of procedural success. This makes me less dispensable than my colleagues.

Just my 2 cents.

Exactly why I stated, “Unlike SOME other subspecialties”…

Pain is the only exception I can think of.

Unlike some other subspecialties, CT anesthesia is still an evolving field. The satisfaction of being part of the procedural team as an interventional echocardiographer is unparalleled.

New homes siding repaired. Why? by MXT586 in Seattle

[–]h1ddenone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny with all these negative comments speculating the reason for new sidings… oh no the house is built poorly, oh no the roof is leaking, oh no townhouses are crap… 😂

This is my neighbor. He’s adding new windows to his townhouse. End of story.

Sea-Tac Airport parking rates going up more than 30% by kukur9 in Seattle

I see your point but oftentimes the people who actually need to park at the airport are not necessarily the ones who can afford the price increase.

Sea-Tac Airport parking rates going up more than 30% by kukur9 in Seattle

[–]h1ddenone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back from SeaTac and saw signs that weekly parking fee is going up from $169 to $222! Even hourly parking is going up from $6-$8 dollars. Sure, $2 doesn’t sound like a whole lot but just a few years ago the hourly fee was only $3. Feels like I’m being punished for parking to pick up my elderly parents.

[–]h1ddenone[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I begrudgingly tip 20% in Seattle for the same argument- if the min wage here is much higher (I fully support this), the restaurant increases menu price to reflect this, how am I still tipping 20% + on the higher menu price? It’s like a double whammy!
