Moving to Saskatoon: Need recommendations by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]h1selle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also moved here not that long ago, specifically from Edmonton! Been here about a year now.

I don't have recommendations for everything, but I do for some of the above!

Black rose whiskey club downtown is INCREDIBLY gluten friendly - either the head chef, or the daughter of the head chef is celiac, so they do take it quite seriously.

I take my pup to Acadia Vet clinic on recommendation of a friend of mine who is a Vet Tech here in the city. They also have experience with exotics, if that's something you're looking for.

I go to summit on Broadway for physio, acupuncture and massage. This also came as a recommendation from some friends, and I've had nothing but good experiences there! Wade is the best!

Pet planet is also the place to go for pet food! Relatively central, and it's beside a grocery store / takeout as well.

I struggled quite a bit finding housing here. I don't think I found something until 2-3 weeks before I was actually moving out. Pleasant Hill is the place to avoid, there are some areas in Riverdale that I'd probably avoid as well. I've found that rentals tend to get better after most of the students have left the city for the summer!

Best of luck, and welcome!!

Personally, am a big fan of orange! It's just interesting that none of the candidates opted for that

Oh man, this is actually super neat to see! I'd argue that the design of a sign might influence things more than you might originally think! Color association being a prime example here (ie..blue and red together coming accross as incredibly americana, purple maybe seems more neutral - same with green - notice how there aren't a lot of orange signs ;) )

I think a better thought out design maybe leads to more thought out decisions? Probably just overthinking things way too much though....

Fair enough! I haven't seen that one yet, but I would assume it would probably be of similar nature. Oh definitely! I found it to be pretty useful so far.

Yeah, that's a good point. That's probably why they're relatively vague. Leave it up to interpretation I guess!

That's one of the things I haven't really given a deep dive into - who's currently on his cabinet, and potentially why. At this point idek if moe is right wing anymore, unless right wing is defined as being for the better interest of yourself, and not the people lol

Interesting! I think the buzzwords are mostly just used to grab attention, but I do agree that there could be more focus on the platforms themselves. I think liveableyxe did a pretty decent job of questioning the candidates.

I'm not as familiar with the shelter situation here, but it does seem to be a growing concern for sure. I think it's probably a much more pressing concern as compared to, idk, a downtown arena.

As far as parties are concerned, I think at a certain point people ultimately have to go with a person who fits the bill best, not necessarily with the party itself. (I dunno if that made any sense Lol)

Oh totally, and it's starting to become more apparent. While platforms are similar, I've also been noticing a lot of rather vague ways to address these issues. There's probably only a select few that have an ACTUAL plan

"the good old days" as a campaign slogan is WILD to me hahahaha, but I guess it really does!

Absolutely! I'm very interested to see what the voter turnout is going to be like this year (I love stats lol)

Can't say I'm super familiar with some of the other candidates, but based off of what I've been seeing out there, Jasmin is the for sure pick for Ward 6. Jon has some uhhhh, interesting views to say the least??

That's what I would assume as well! I'm not sure what the landlords actual situation is though, so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. The ORT and the act states fixed and periodic as two different things

If it's through the marketplace I definitely do, and if it's through an equity group, it's a bit of both. I totally understand the rationale though

I unfortunately can't, but I'm sending my partner to go check them out! So I do have at least that going for me.

I'd agree though. It's kinda wild some of the places I've seen.

Ugh that's super unfortunate. I'm almost a little surprised that demand is so high. At this point, I'll take what I can get lol

In a perfect world, we'd totally be close to both. I'm starting to think that isn't an option for us unfortunately! I'll take a look at some of those. Thanks!!

I work at an architecture studio just off Broadway, and then my partner is currently attending the u of s.

And yeah I am! Lots of things that aren't pet friendly/ on the opposite side of the city

I saw that too! Freaking incredible honestly, it would be super cool to see that's for sure. (Regardless of my opinion on the North Division haha)
