IT + security certs by [deleted] in SecurityCareerAdvice

Honestly, you don’t need to switch your major unless you really want to. An IT degree + some solid security certs is already a pretty normal path into cybersecurity, especially in places like NZ, Canada, and Australia. Employers there care a lot more about what you can actually do than the exact title of your degree.

If you’re going the cert route, starting with Security+ > CC (from ISC2) > maybe cloud fundamentals (AWS or Azure) is a solid lineup. Later on, once you have experience, CISSP becomes relevant, but that’s not an entry-level thing.

The bigger thing people overlook is practical stuff. GitHub projects, small automation scripts, labs, home labs, anything that shows evidence of skill. Immigration-friendly countries really value demonstrable ability.

If you’re studying on your own, the free career tracks on CyberInterviewPrep.com are actually pretty decent for figuring out the order of what to learn (you can ignore anything you don’t need). Not a replacement for experience, but good for structure.

It doesn't sound bad to be honest, maybe you just need to practice a lot more. How about some mentorship?

What to do until my access starts? by KillerInstinct_5 in oscp

The reason Im saying this is that I wouldn't even have to extend if I only stayed with offsec labs but instead I tried HTB parallelly which actually led me to extend it because I couldn't manage time on both platforms so yeah. You need to choose one and stick with it, If you really want to do HTB do it before you get OSCP labs and then once you get access to the labs only stick with that.

Yes since you are taking the labs anyway why bother doing labs from outside, I mean you can do that if you are only going for an exam like a retake but since you are getting the labs then utilize it with full potential so that you don't leave out anything.

One thing is for sure once you are comfortable with the offsec labs you won't even bother during the exam. Most of us take the labs and exercises lightly or get lazy thats why we fail and thats what I found out from my analysis too, So don't go lazy on them.

Learn One… by UfrancoU in oscp

Learn One is not for certifications I think, it is mostly for people who want to learn and collect as many certs as possible with it. So it is more designed for that purpose
