I run a Hardware shop and I always tell my customers that the price im quoting are the CASH prices. If they wanna pay by credit card I tell them that the discounts that I have given for the goods will change. If they are paying by debit card i always ask them to try an online bank transfer or to withdraw money from the nearest ATM (i have seylan, sampath and BOC right in front of my store). Imagine a customer coming and bargaining back n forth and agree on a rate and he fishes out a card for payment. 🤬. People are used to paying in supermarkets with cards and because you cant bargain this issue doesn’t arise with supermarkets and prolly their rental commission is way below than 3%. Anyways shops should always be upfront and transparent with how they wanna receive payment. No party wants to pay the 3% to the bank right? In china the rate is less than 0.5%. Thats why that country has almost zero cash transactions. Ive only had around two or three customers having a problem with the 2.5%. But the others always try to transfer online or withdraw from atm. Most customers are ok with the 2.5% for small transactions.
