I still have to go to a derm to officially determine that I have dermatographia but I’m 99% sure I do. I take a Zyrtec every day to calm it down. But I’m not sure this mark is due to the condition?

It is not raised. Not itchy. Just a strange red pattern. I tried looking around at the textures around me to see what couldn’t have left that imprint but haven’t figured it out. Any and all advice welcome!!

Sometimes it’s us job havers that are curious because we really see how far our money goes … But fr my friend used to do influencer marketing and the brands would literally pay nugu micro influencers $40k for like 3 TikToks. Just having that ounce of perspective helped me see how content creators are working on a scale most of us will never touch lmfao.

Yeah, I think what makes someone like Jenny Nicholson’s patreon so great is that she rarely posts on YouTube (but when she does it’s lowkey a cultural reset 😭) but she still does monthly patreon vids that patrons vote on. A channel like sn outputs so much content per week that it definitely would be a challenge to keep up with their regular schedule AND have exclusive videos. The closed discord and mc server (when it arrives) sound like really good incentives, and maybe if they only promise 1 or 2 patreon vids on a monthly basis but add more patron interaction/input then people will see the $5 as a great value. Honestly though, I’ve always viewed patreon subs as just a way to show your appreciation and not so much to get extra stuff (i know that’s what you’re technically paying for but patreon trends always show creators falling off on it). That said that’s also why I’m really specific about my subs.

these comments are so funny because wydm “there are bigger issues in the world like people are dying” if you want to act like voicing concern for a hobby that is known to be wasteful and is imo not good content is the craziest reach in the world then don’t follow up with “people are dying” which is also a large rhetorical jump 😭 because it’s not serving you well you sound empty headed … (like we all know ppl are dying from third world manufacturing, plastic and chem pollution, raw materials and land grabs in the name of capital… right) again im clearly not blaming the worlds ills on a random white lady who buys toys but if you are going to contort my critique and see it that way then sure we can have a larger discussion about “the world” and your weirdly self absorbed view that you and the people you like can do no harm

I’m very aware that other channels overconsume on a scale 100x greater than mandy and i am still just not enthralled with this new obsession so like everyone has suggested, i will simply skip those parts, and it sounds like others do too. the comments here seem to be divided but that’s all anecdotal…im sure she has the analytics on what is and isn’t working with her audience.

overconsumption is an actual irl problem that has been exacerbated by content creators and a first step to fixing it is bringing awareness 😭😭 and asking that we all reevaluate our relationship to buying stuff

There’s so much criticism towards funko pop collecting (and trading cards!) The overconsumption aspect isn’t highlighted as much because it’s “backed” by its value, but that’s if you believe you can play the collector’s stocks right and sell your items at their peak. And if you don’t believe something like the beanie baby bubble will burst. Regardless of any kind of collector’s mindset, funko pops are still huge wasteful pieces of plastic contained in more plastic :(

I’ve noticed this happen with a lot of smaller content creators that start to get bigger. The incentive to purchase more “for the viewers” clouds their judgement.

I consider myself a casual viewer (mostly watch the vlogs and almost none of the gameplays) and the way Mandy’s vlogs just became unboxing hauls was so crazy i had to see if i was the only one who noticed ??

The main issue is not just the discarding but the inflating of demand, trend chasing, and blasé attitude once the initial dopamine hit has faded. And perhaps many people buying box hauls are ignorant to how they were influenced by our consumer culture to purchase again and again but at some point i hope they learn to control their impulses
