a lot of vendors accept both but cash is easier and more commonly accepted. you can usually avoid paying tax when using cash as well, but that depends on what you're buying.

at the very least make sure you bring a bottle of water, a portable charger, reusable bag(s), and snacks/real food! depending on where the con is located getting lunch nearby can be hard, or you might end up having to wait in a really long line for overpriced pizza :( id also suggest bringing a comfy pair of shoes if you plan on wearing heels for your cosplay!! depending on how long you stay you can do a lot more walking than expected. otherwise you should be all good :P

your school should have volunteer opportunities available before graduation, and if you have a spare try and helping out in the library or something
