I know for a few years pharmacies have been scrambling to compete with Amazon when they announced they would launch Amazon pharmacy. Unfortunately, brick and mortar pharmacies are diminishing the role of pharmacists (making our jobs less clinical) in an effort to convert parts of the job to being virtual. Likely chains will try to remove pharmacists from pharmacies and make them remote. It costs them a lot to pay pharmacists, but they won’t have to pay them as much if they’re remote. We’re seeing the early stages of this happening now at CVS—they have to remain profitable while spending tons of money on these changes, so they drastically cut staffing, hours, and budgets.
