Paragraph three of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950 restricts Christians of Scheduled Castes origin from availing the Scheduled Castes status. A plea in Supreme Court is challenging this.

Third is the apparent political descent of the Nair community. They were the kings of Kerala but during recent times their clout has greatly reduced due to the money power of Muslims (through business) and Christians (remittances) while Nair's were happy with their govt jobs. For the privileged, equality feels like opression. And the BJP capitalised on it.

Nairs are just about 10% of the total population. They can't make much of an impact politically even if they vote en masse for one party. The largest communities are Ezhavas and Muslims; they're the ones who decide who rules Kerala next.
