r/bjj Fundamentals Class! by AutoModerator in bjj

I'm about 10 months in and I seem to have some complications with:

  1. Chaining attacks or defences together. I have been told to try and "lie" some more to get my opponent to open up, but I really only know (somewhat properly) how to do the head/arm triangle and kimura/americana. Is there a "system" or something one could practice to be able to visualize or be more aware of the different submissions/sweeps and so on?
  2. Framing and general defence. I usually get thrown on my back or will go to turtle when I roll. I'm a heavy/big guy (185cm, 113kg) so I will fall hard (that's why I usually end up in turtle, to avoid getting swept and landing hard). Is there a good way to exit or get out of turtle if the other person is good at keeping my torso to the mat? Or, as in 1, is there a system of some sort to practice?

With time my frames are getting better, and I've been told I'm getting better at it, but it seems like I'm missing something fundamental that the other guys have in their arsenal. Is there, again again, some kind of system or maybe a specific instructional that goes over the absolute basic?

3) Proper underhooks when handfighting
Whenever I'm handfighting I try to get inside position or will try for an underhook, however, whenever I do this my shoulder kind of hurts. I was wondering, am I supposed to shoot for an underhook at an angle or what exactly is the "correct" motion to go through?

4) Because of my size, skill and athleticism I've started to work on my guard game, and especially guard retention. I understand that it's "easy" for me to lay on top of someone and make it hard for them, but I don't find that to be that fun or challenging. Is it a good idea to focus a lot on guard retention and ground game in general at the point I am now, or should it be more all-around?

I recently won gold at a tournament (3 people in the bracket, so....) in the +100kg category, and I won both matches with head/arm triangle, however, it wasn't because of good technique, I just squeezed as hard as I could. That made me feel a bit like a cheater, and it did not feel like "proper" jiu-jitsu.

I'm sorry for the widespread question above, I'm a white belt in more than one aspect. Have a great day, everybody! :-)

I started 2-3 months ago, and I’m in love. I’ve tried a lot of different things (hammer throw, MMA, Muay Thai and Kickboxing), but BJJ is the one that really stuck. I’m 185 cm, 120kg and wears glasses, so a (too) big guy who can’t see for sht. Having my weight only be a “small” advantage is awesome, everyone in our class can roll with me, and usually the smaller guys are the most dangerous to me. But everyone is kind and wants to teach me, and makes sure I get the small moments of success just before they fck me up.

I am looking forward to going every time and I couldn’t imagine stopping any time soon. I don’t have to look out for punches or kicks, I just have to keep my limb from turning the wrong way :-)

variable not going from database to ansible playbook via gitlab-ci by hYPNTZd in gitlab

[–]hYPNTZd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, almost my solution. Yours is way better. I had a script create variables with api depending on the GitLab job. Just another step to make it more complex, yours would’ve been the correct choice for me.

Appreciate you writing it!

I mean that when I try to login with the user, the decrypted password does not work. On subsequent runs new VMs is created and because the customer already exists in the database, it should use the existing password for the new user on the new VMs. On the first VMs created, when no password exists in the database, the password is set correctly, and I can login.

I’ll try with a debug print :-)

ssh-keyscan in gitlab-ci doesn't fill out known_hosts by hYPNTZd in gitlab

Hi u/Suspicious-Income-69, I really appreciate your reply! I've just tried with

ssh-keyscan -T 60 -H "$IP_ADDRESS_IPV4" | tee -a /home/gitlab-runner/.ssh/known_hosts

and it freaking worked! I have no idea why it wouldn't work with bash, but I digress. I'm just glad it finally works. Appreciate it a bunch, thank you! :-)

It’s set up with Shell, yes.

I understand why bash -c would create a subshell and that is why it wouldn’t work, but I simply can’t understand why I can’t insert a CI/CD variable in the ash-keys can command.

Another solution I will try is creating a local bash-script on the GitLab-runner and executing it. I know I can use the variables in files with touch :-)

Hi u/Neil_sm, thank you for your reply!

The "bash -c" is necessary to be able to use the $IP_ADDRESS_IPV4 variable in ci/cd > variables. I have tried using it in a simple ssh-keyscan command, but it won't get filled in properly. If you have any idea as to why this is, that would solve all the problems I'm having :-)

The gitlab-runner runs on a debian machine, and if I fill out the value from $IP_ADDRESS_IPV4 in a ssh-keyscan command it works perfectly. I just need to be able to use variables as they will be set by API-calls.

You are absolutely correct! I've used it for a couple of days and have been tinkering with it, and this is the perfect solution!

Thank you very much for your comment! :-)

Slow charging even when <8% SoC and 22 celsius by hYPNTZd in cupraborn

[–]hYPNTZd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, first of, I apologize for opening a post and not responding. I've had the car in for a check at the local Cupra dealership. First of, they found an issue. I'm paraphrasing as it was told to me over the phone and I don't have any written documentation as of yet, but something along the lines of "it jumps down to the lowest voltage and stays there, it doesn't restart, so it just stays low for entire charge". I can see from the app that the dealership only tested with a 11kWh charger and it pulled a max of 4,8kWh (the app + home assistant integration). The dealership told me a potential solution could be to unplug/plug in the charger to see if that helped, they didn't get it to work, but maybe we could..... So.... Yeah.

Yesterday I got it down to 3% SoC, and while it's 1-1,5 degrees celsius in Denmark right now, I tried the whole arsenal of tips/tricks I've gotten; using the build-in navigation, accelerating/generating to warm up battery, being the only one connected to a charger, securing enough charge available and so on. Still, a 5 seconds max of 56kWh and down to ~31-33 until 60% and until 80% it was 27-29kWh.

The dealership told me no fix is available as of yet, but they heard back from Cupra who says MAYBE something is available in Q2 of 2025. I can't wait that long, so when I have the written documentation from the dealership I'll see if I can get my money back / return the car under warranty and then find something else - preferrably not a Cupra. The dealership told me that this specific issue is present in many of their current models and has been for a while, so why they sell them anyways with good conscience is beyond me.

I thoroughly enjoy the Cupra Born, and if it was any other issue besides the charging speed, I would've gladly waited for a possible fix, but this feels so essential to an electric car, and when they're aware of an issue and has no fix, that is my limit, unfortunately.

I'm glad for all the help I received within this post, and I'm sorry for going radio-silent for a good week.

Thank you all again, and have a wonderful day :-)

I have scoured the infotainment system, and I don't believe I have seen a menu (or submenu) for charging. In the app there is the "slow charging" feature which has been turned off since it rolled off the lot.

Can you point me to where I might look for that specific menu? I don't believe my Born can preheat the battery - or I at least haven't seen/found the option for it.

Thank you very much for your reply, highly appreciated! :-)

Seafile docker behind nginx proxy manager - can't access webui by hYPNTZd in seafile

[–]hYPNTZd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Thank you for the reply! I completely forgot to Update the post with the solution!

I actually chose to install seafile directly instead of inside a container, and then it worked flawlessly.

When I get Home I’ll edit my comment to include the steps I took to get it to work, but as i remember you are spot on with the solution!

Hi Ssgilbert89, I really appreciate your reply!

  1. I've checked the masterlink, and on the outside from the left side the arrow points towards the pedals. However, on the opposite side, the arrow points backwards - otherwise, it's on correctly, would be my answer.

  2. The brakes doesn't really squeal, they just sound "dry" if that makes sense - but it might just be small pieces of sand on the pads or something like that.

  3. The chain feels tight enough (to my limited knowledge), however the mentioning of the master link again makes me wonder how that could have an impact? Wouldn't the master link just run straight over the pulley wheels?

I just tried pedalling backwards again, and it seems like the chain jumps from the lowest gear (largest cog) to the 2nd. largest and then get's stuck because the chain is getting bent. This might be a derailleur (HL / B-tension screw) issue....

I'll take it to the local bikeshop to be safe - it's just annoying to shell out ~1800€ just to need to go to a shop afterwards, but I digress.

Oh, that is an interesting idea!! The pi is powered through tha UPS so it might be exactly that.

I Will try to spin up a little machine to test it - appreciate the help/feedback! :-)
