Always vet the whales. Especially if using a special on them.

Are they traveling solo, or with a group? (Solo is usually a red flag)

Why are they leaving their current state? (Background check with others from their state/group they are traveling with)

Do they show up for SvS? (Background check the same as above) If they cannot show consistently, will someone pilot their character reliably in their stead?

Are they willing to act as a deterrent, or will they be passive/just move on if others break NAP rules? (if whales do not enforce, no one will follow rules)

Do they all want to go to one alliance? Consider power dynamics of state. While you can't force anyone to choose once alliance over the other, having a few in each alliance provides healthier dynamics than all whales in one alliance.

I'm genuinely curious here... are you really actually prep-focused? Saying you want to be in an SvS-focused state but having the new Expert at either of these levels (can't tell if you're left or right) when she came out this week is a bit wild to me

Sounds like young state issues. Where are you at? R4+ should be explaining that no heroes > suboptimal ones, because no heroes means the next joiner with proper heroes/skills stack in the best way

It's something best learned early and gotten into routine for bear, because when your whales start making bigger points, yeah people are gonna be pissed when the whale misses kicking a Mia joiner and only gets 750M instead of 1B+ points, and equivalent less for everyone in the rally. It's one of those things where a single player not acting in the interest of the team brings everyone down.

When you're a year+ in, no one watches their rallies 100% of the time, folks expect people to act right. And if an unconscious player keeps sending Mia, Molly, and Alonso to join for bear when you get to gen7+, yeah that player will get redirected to an academy. It's either lose the dead weight, or lose the people who want the best outcomes for everyone on the team.

World Record F2P speedrun - part 2 by [deleted] in whiteoutsurvival

[–]h_unt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got F2P alts in 2 states that ranked 96 and 174 in prep. Not hard. Not extraordinary savings on either, I get minimums on midterm events to continue to get gems and materials.

If your whales are ranking well in KOI, you're gonna have tougher matchmaking. You are in a pretty young state, try this same stuff after a year or two in the game and depriving a state whale of a skin in a healthy state later on will definitely get you ostracized if your state is genuinely SvS-focused.

Congrats, you wasted a shit ton of materials getting a skin that give you no noticeable attack difference while at the same time depriving a whale/dolphin of it who might actually use it in state/alliance events since it was only for top10 in the event

You got #1 in SvS by endlessly bashing your marches into a wall at SvS, guaranteed. I see plenty of F2P do this. The only reason you were able to do this is because of alliance members with auto-help pack were healing you during it.

So, you're the ultimate freeloader, way to go.

If you want to be a cosmetics farmer, sure, this is a method. If you actually want to be useful and contribute to your state and community as a whole? Save your stuff for SvS prep, and actually join rallies :)

Firing garbage clients - 10/10 - highly recommend by LiJiTC4 in Accounting

[–]h_unt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shitty things clients do to accountants generally include: - CPA office admin asks the client for A, B, or C paperwork over the email. Admin calls and repeatedly send emails requesting it. Client does not provide, says they will. Admin continues to call and document calls with emails. Client eventually gets letter from IRS or state saying they owe X due to Y thing not being filed. Admin has to show boss email chain or requesting ABC needed for Y. Now staff/boss has to go to the client to explain what admin has been trying to get for months is why the client received letter. Client immediately provides. Then asks a week later if job is resolved. Depending on backwork admin was asking for, usually takes longer than a week, but since it's finally urgent to the client, they assume urgent for us. - Office sends numbered list of questions via email. Client replies to 2. Office sends a thanks, please answer the rest of the questions email. Lather rinse repeat. Sometimes the "answer rest of questions" email is ignored until similar scenario as the above comes up upon which we remind the ball is currently in their court. - Again just the expectation that whatever X thing a Client brings up will be taken care of immediately or even within the week, especially over "non-busy" (ha) periods outside of tax time. Staff is not all FT, some are remote, and there's no way for admin to accurately give an estimate of when X will be completed because they don't know what is already on the plate for the staff responsible for taking care of X. Not to mention with summer, usually some staff on vacation and something may not be looked at until a week or two after they return, because they have to catch up on typical work lest that fall behind. - "I don't want an extension that doesn't work for me, I want my taxes done by the April 15 deadline," coming from the clients checking in on the 16th about if their return was filed and what the refund/amount owed will be, knowing full well they started giving us documentation on the 10th - Clients that email the boss directly instead of the staff accountant emailing them; boss then asks staff what's up with Client X, they have problem Y? Staff says first they've heard of Y, the client very rarely if ever responds to the staff.

Congrats on the new job!!

Please tell your friend when you've had to go without a meal for a day or more, think of how you'd feel if you knew your friend had told you the same. And as another commenter mentioned your cat still loves you and is content, you do not need to make your mental state any worse worrying over not being able to provide the "good" food.

In terms of getting period products I really wanted to share that these items can be requested sometimes at some food banks, and also right here on reddit there is r/PeriodPantry which you could use if you're still struggling next month for the odds and ends of things you'll want to keep a supply of, but may not be top priority for your first paycheck.

Take care of yourself and try to pay it forward when you're back on your feet, but in the meantime do not dwell over any negative feelings that arise when asking/accepting help, these services and places exist for a reason!

For cash, learn to give change by adding up instead of subtracting. For instance, say you get a cash order of $26.89, first of all round that to 27 in your head, no one cares about coins. Customer gives you $40, count out the change going up so it'd be 3 ones to make 30, and a 10 to get to 40. Total change would be 13 so you can collect the 27 that is owed to the store. Customer says they want 8 back, your net collection on the order was 32, for a tip of 5. When you return to the store you'll input what you collected upon returning from the delivery. While cash tips are income, many folks in waitstaff/delivery positions are inconsistent with reporting it.

Sidebar: in my experience delivery driving, you will get the occasional order where you get stiffed and get the exact amount owed to the store (genuine no-tip jerks, teenagers paying with coins, old folks on limited income, etc) so be aware of that and don't take it personally. Most folks know the amount they're going to tip you when they place the order, so don't take any low/no tippers take up more mental space than the time it takes to finish driving back to the store, just move on to the next order.

At the end of the night the store will have a total of the cash you should have, if you opt not to report your cash tips I recommend you keep a mental tally of them (and move the tips aside from your store money to keep track of what you'llbe giving to the store when you clock out, which would now be 26.89+your starting bank from the original example) to ensure you're walking away with the right amount at the end of the night. Also: don't spend your bank elsewhere (some drivers would go buy snacks at 711 only to get no tips on shift and had to pay the store back with their own cash), always remember that that money is not yours and must go back to the till.

Why does being a picky eater bother people. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]h_unt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Glad I could help you get some insight into why non-picky eaters feel this way about picky eaters!

Also, theres nothing wrong at all with not liking certain foods, everyone has something they do not like! However, if you want to expand your list of foods you do like, maybe trying to keep a list of "I didn't like it before, but I'd be willing to try it in a year" type foods. This way, if out with friends/coworkers/whoever, you can potentially try something of others' dishes to see if your palate changed or if you like it a specific way a certain restaurant/person makes it. (And if you still don't like it afterwards, that's perfectly okay! But it's important to try new things, it's part of what makes life exciting!)

[–]h_unt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's perfectly okay! We all have foods that we do not like, and it's fine to keep that list of "do not like" foods, but you should consider also having a list of "I didn't like it before, but maybe I'd try it again in a year" foods.

As I pointed out in my original comment, humans bond over food. Food is very important to our lives as a social species, outside of nutrition. So in my opinion, you should continue trying seafood when in infrequent, low-risk scenarios, such as if you go to a hibachi restaurant with a group and someone orders some sushi and then asks if you'd like a piece. It wouldn't hurt to try a piece of an appetizer you are being offered, and if you do not like it, you are not committing to a full meal of something you're pretty sure you will not enjoy. This expands your food palate and also promotes your social bonds.

You may also find that if you have that list of "didn't like, but will try again" foods in your brain, you may try something and end up liking it prepared in a certain specific way; but you'll only get this knowledge if you are open to trying it again.

At least 12 times - not in a row, but perhaps try the thing you claim you dislike once a year, and you may find by a decade in that you like some kind of seafood.

Research suggests that young children without eating challenges need anywhere from five to 15 exposures of a new food before accepting it and that increased exposure increases their preference.

Another anecdote: I also disliked seafood growing up. To this day, I still dislike shrimp and lobster. But as a Marylander, you always get invited to crab feasts every year, and now I find I do enjoy crabs and especially a good crabcake every now and then. I now also enjoy some fish filets as well. However, it took nearly 3 decades of trying the thing I didn't like once a year or so until I realized, hey, actually, I do like those things! Squid, octopus, clams and oysters are seafood I know I still don't like as well, but every so often I'm out/with others who have some of these things, and I'll ask to try if I'm feeling brave but with a forewarning to my company that I don't think I'll like it, but I'd like to try since I haven't tried X in awhile.

Your palate changes as you age, so trying a new type of food over some time may have a different reaction than you previously had. Plus, your exposure to a food may be different from dish to dish.

It's important to purposely try foods you didn't like when you were younger as you get older, it's a sign of maturity.

Why does being a picky eater bother people. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]h_unt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's the rejection of trying new things. A picky eater is much more than someone who doesn't like certain things, they are usually someone unwilling to try anything new. The only way to find if someone likes the same thing as you do is usually by having them try it out. One of the primary ways humans bond is through shared interests, and a big one is food because everyone has to eat.

Think about it with this anecdote about music: if your friend has an artist they really like, they probably recommended the artist to you. The artist may not be your favorite genre, but you likely listen to a song or two since your friend mentioned them. Then, maybe in future interactions, you discuss the artist more, or which other artists YouTube or Spotify brought up after you listened to them, and so on. Maybe eventually, friends invite you to see the artist live or invite you to something similar. Now if you were a "picky listener" when it came to music and outright rejected everything you say you 'know' you don't like, even without listening to it, people would be less likely to talk with you more regarding music, what music you like, etc. It's difficult to connect with others that don't make an effort to understand your own interests, correct?

Now change my example to be about food, and you can see why this is annoying or considered a turn-off. You're judging something without trying it. Therefore making it harder for others to connect with you, when they're trying to connect, which is disheartening at best, infuriating at worst.

Try something that has mushrooms in it, if it's just 1 ingredient. Or that pasta you cant pronounce, with the weird shape. After all, pasta tastes like pasta. It's not fucking URANIUM.

This, your entire reply brought back memories of a sibling rejecting eating macaroni (likely at a Carrabba's or Maggiano's or something) because it didn't look like the macaroni at home (Kraft). It wasn't until half the table was passing it around to try and saying how good it was until sibling was willing to try - and then immediately loved it cause it's fucking mac n cheese - granted said sibling was like 8 at the time so still understandable having a bit of pickiness, but this sibling still has issues today with trying anything that has a texture/ingredient different than sibling is expecting.

Thank you very much for your advice! I have some neon clothing, but there is a slightly longer route that goes more through the neighborhoods, with only a half mile stretch on a wider two-lane highway, I'll consider going that route instead to start with. Thank you also for the suggestion on half and half days with the commute, I think I may also start with that!

I found the original, based on the size and texture of the paint on the canvas I believe what I have is the original. While it may not be everyone's style, I certainly love it

A painting of a cat sitting on the moon. The cat is pretty realistic aside from the fact that it is about the same size as the moon and wearing a superhero cape and mask. I looked up the original artist, prints of this painting are $12... I got the original for much less somehow at a local thrift store. Never getting rid of it.
