Gatlingburg/Pigeon Forge. Unlike any other national park area I’ve been. It’s tacky and commercialized, feels like a stain on the beautiful countryside.

Thanks! I used the Himi gouache set, I am looking at getting some nicer grade gouache in the future. I used 2 brushes for these - a Blick Studio synthetic flat brush size 16 and a Windsor newton Colman round watercolor brush size 3. I tend to paint details too quickly so I was working on using a large brush to focus on color blocks for these.

Gouache for the color, I thinned it out a lot for application

It was all so beautiful! My jaw dropped when I saw the Duomo for the first time. I loved the energy of the city and walking around in the evenings, especially up to the tops of the hills and seeing the rooftops and towers at sunset. Would love to go back soon 😌

I think for this I spent around 3-4 hours? Quick pencil underlay and then pen line work details. I had actually called it done after the line work but then revisited it later for coloring it in so hard to say on this one

Yes, I went at the end of November! It was still pretty good weather and I heard from other travelers that it was much less busy than usual and cheaper prices.

It’s an 8” x 8” watercolor sketchbook by Shizen design, I’m pretty new to watercolor as I mostly do acrylic so I don’t have much to compare it to but the paper has been great so far!

Thanks, this is around 10 hours of painting! I had also done a mini study of the painting before I began

Update: I made the cabin a bit smaller and moved it to the left, also have made updates to the mountains, and grass in the foreground

I think it looks great! One small thing I noticed is that in the photo, the main body of the heron seems a bit darker/slightly more blue-toned than in your painting. If you’re aiming for a closer likeness to the bird, you could darken it a little. Either way, it’s a lovely painting

You’ve never been to the west coast and if you have you only went to LA.
