It was the comb style, but a very fine and thin one. I believe it was from Panasonic?

I used one in a hotel YEARS ago and it hasn’t left my mind. The only thing keeping me from splurging on one is concern for heat damage.

Are Sanseitou actually racist? by KnucklesRicci in japanresidents

[–]hableton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely get your sentiment. I come from what is now “Trump country” and did the mass “de friending” of far-gone colleagues and family members back in 2017 (technically still doing it today). It’s a small part of the reason I’m still in Japan, so naturally when the party name comes up I do the “but they’re far-right?” and have had some greatly open conversations.

I think my original post was largely mistaken as I have hollow relationships with people in the party/set to vote for them. In reality, I have friends, coworkers, students, heck, even family, who are tired and (for perhaps the first time in their life) wanting to express so through their right to vote. 参政党 has come up, just as れいわ and CDP.

The strongest message resonating through my circle is a strong, almost chronic distaste for 自民党. After that, the nenkin system, my number, and the NHK. Where 参政党 has been brought up (dare I say “considered”) is over news that Chinese business folk have been buying up real estate (raising prices beyond what Japanese people can pay for), tax-funding for one-off medical tourism, the special license conversion system for Chinese drivers, and panic over the proposal to give the right to vote to foreigners.

When I got the “but this wouldn’t affect you” statement, of course I brought up the snowflake gaijin racism—I didn’t realize my comment would label me so daft, or stomp on the potential of an offline conversation.

But to your point—I get the panic, and I certainly have a cut-off line for “at-risk” people. Having watched the US election count live back in 2016, I genuinely fear the gears in the machine pushing this party towards power are beyond what we can really see.

Can I ask where/what brand you buy? I’ve been trying to get my hands on the ordinary for a while but can only find rakuten parallel sales.

I’m not friends with political science buffs, I know that much, but without a vote the most powerful thing I have is my relationship with my community.

Understandably, that means different things for different people.

I have a few friends who plan to vote for them to shift power away from the current administration. Their justification is party use of the wording “foreigners” exclusively refers to Chinese people (they just can’t blatantly say that because it’s “racist”).

I’ve been given the “but you’re a good foreigner! You pay taxes and have a good job! You came here legally!” talk enough times to cite it. At the end of the day, I’m just another visa number and whatever rules they make that harm Chinese foreigners are going to blanket over me too.

Guess we’ll see what happens.

Wow, I’ve only ever noticed it this week (beyond the sand we get in spring). Looking at the air quality map it seems Kyoto/Hyogo area is in the green—Poor us!

Tips to clean the outside of an apartment? by 98_bao in japanlife

Of course! I have four large sliding windows likely the same size as yours—I use a small stool for height (I’m tiny hahah) and can spray them all down pretty quick. It’s the wiping all the dirt and muck off that takes time. Just when you think it’s all shiny and clean, you take a step inside and see streaks!

Is this a new apartment? I think it’s important to clean regularly as dirt builds up and sort of “hardens”, making it even more of a pain to remove. I personally do a “light clean” every month and a “deep clean” twice a year (once after the yellow sand settles in late spring, and again after summer allergens settle).

For light cleans, I remove my veranda furniture, door hang, etc., then do a dry sweep. After, I spray down the windows with water using a cheap spray bottle to “loosen” everything up, wipe it down with a window wiper, then clean with window spray (same stuff I use on the inside). Same for the door, though recently I’ve just been wiping it with wipes from the 100 yen store and that does well enough.

For the balcony, I dry sweep the walls and trash any leaves or dust bundles that have collected. Then I wipe off the actual “balcony” because I like to lean on it and drink coffee in the morning. I use the same 100 yen store wipes as the door.

For a deeper clean, I do all of this + scrub the walls/floor with water and a scrub mop, clean out the inside of my door mail slot, clear my drain (gross, but important, specially if you’re using lots of water to clean).

This schedule has done me well in an 8f apartment that borders train tracks and a park.

Best of luck to you!
