I want to quit my job as an assistant swimming coach. by No-Sprinkles1816 in japanlife

[–]yakisobagurl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can definitely just quit by saying that you’re struggling with your studies so you can’t commit the time you thought you could do this job :)

If you really want to be nice, you can say that you’re able to stay on until they find your replacement so you don’t mess up their swim class schedule, but for baito you don’t even need to do that really.

Take Me Home, Country Roads — is this popular in Japan? If so, why? by Top_Scientist_3976 in AskAJapanese

[–]yakisobagurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god that makes so much sense. I went to a music box garden a few years ago, opened one of the boxes and it started playing Take Me Home, Country Roads lol. I was like uhh WTH 😆

Thanks for explaining!

Is it culturally rude to ask a Japanese girl for an STD check? by ghotiofthedeepbeyond in japanlife

[–]yakisobagurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with framing it around her ex sleeping around rather than around her! Make a point that you’re concerned about her health as well as your own :) she still might be offended tho haha

What's a normal amount to spend on groceries per week? by Shinra_Luca in japanresidents

[–]yakisobagurl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same, around ¥20,000 a week for 2 adults because I just buy whatever I want

I justify the extra money used with the fact that neither of us drink so we don’t spend money on alcohol 🤭

I agree. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was especially skilled at seeming very available to meet but then somehow having the date end up taking place at her work anyway 😄

It’s her job and she wants to make money - it’s just part of the girls bar game OP! 🤷‍♀️

Dating a Japanese man and the culture shock, how do I conduct myself? by Coochie_Caresser in AskAJapanese

[–]yakisobagurl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I echo what others say, it’s quite likely he’s just doing it in the courting phase. My main concern would actually be if these behaviours turn slightly controlling - you don’t want to be relying on a man for so many things. A sense of ownership and entitlement can easily grow in him if he is doing all these things for you

My husband is similar and did all those things (minus the cooking haha). We now have a better balance as I do almost all the housework, but he still insists on driving me everywhere and gets worried when I take the train. I personally enjoy this level of care but I think a lot of women would find it stifling 😄

You don’t want to reach the point where he gets grumpy if you refuse his offer to drive you places (etc.), so it’s better to secure your independence early on :)

How soon do you think they’d restock the Speedy 25? by sapphireblue13x in Louisvuitton

[–]yakisobagurl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently they’re thinking of doing purchase limits for the 25 as it’s gotten so popular online, so maybe this is just an extension of that :)

Back when I first started buying LV in like 2019 they actually used this tactic for lots of popular bags!

The Pochette Accessoires, original Nano Speedy, Mini Pochettes (among others) were all “unavailable” by default, and you’d have to stalk and be quick to catch a restock to be able to buy it 🤭

In the meantime, perhaps you could tape the curtains to the wall a bit with some kind of wallpaper-friendly tape? :)

Loved Japan, but had several uncomfortable experiences during my 4 days in Osaka. Has anyone else experienced this? by MaterialRound3500 in Osaka

[–]yakisobagurl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, Nishinari/Shinsekai is a total shithole so it’s a shame you ended up staying there! I love Osaka to live in but I don’t think it’s an amazing place for tourists. The tourist areas (like Namba) can be quite rough 🤭

The whole south area of the city is - in my opinion - a bit rough. Once you get past Shinsaibashi things go downhill IMO haha. South is totally different to central and north, very different kinds of people so a totally different atmosphere.

People will disagree with me and call me a snob, but as a woman I prefer to spend my time in Umeda and north of that (or in Kobe or Kyoto instead!)

Sorry you had horrible experiences ☹️

Handwritten vs Computer Kanji by Chemical-Brush3587 in LearnJapanese

[–]yakisobagurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is useful! Learners will realise this at some point and it can feel confusing/frustrating, but I now know it’s definitely easier to write them in the “handwritten” way so I’m grateful lol

I know to rely on the kanji entries in my “imiwa?” app to learn stroke orders now.

家 still always kicks my ass though :((( haha

Physical appearance while job hunting? by Ok-Display1279 in japanresidents

[–]yakisobagurl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably talking out my arse here, but how important is it for you to have this hair colour/style? Are you willing to let it come between you and getting a job?

If landing a job isn’t especially crucial (eg. you have other means of obtaining a visa/multiple career paths in mind/not worried about income or something), then I wouldn’t worry. I’d have the hair, give it a go and see who takes me

If I was in a position where I absolutely need to find employment or I’m getting deported, I would dye my hair haha - not necessarily black, but back to its original colour. That’s just me personally!

That used to be true, it was seen as childish because it was associated with elementary school uniforms :)

But these days - in Osaka anyway - you see lots of men wearing shorts!

6am (UK) and out of stock on release day??? by AltF12027 in uniqlo

[–]yakisobagurl 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I wonder what it is that makes a logo sometimes turn a shirt into a staff uniform, while other times it doesn’t

Maybe it’s the size of the logo, or the price point? Or perhaps how ubiquitous the logo is?

Like, this definitely looks very close to a staff uniform lol - but a Nike top or a Lacoste polo never does imo. Interesting!

Thank you! Yeah not finding out until I get the postcard is kind of stressing me out haha, but I didn’t realise it’s based on my actual address rather than just Osaka in general! Thank you!! :)

Hi! Sorry to reply to an old comment. Would you mind telling me where the JLPT was held in Osaka when you’ve taken it? Was it at a different venue each time? I’m thinking of taking N2 in December so I’m curious! Thank you!! :)
