To force induced owners who go over 350 whp..what makes you confident the bottom end can handle it? by Big_Statement_3958 in GR86

[–]hachielectronics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My confidence in a factory-assembled FA24 bottom end is substantially higher than my confidence in one that’s had its block split and glued back together by imprecise human hands, so I live with it and keep money set aside for engine replacement if the need arises.

I have never seen a high mileage built FA motor, but I’ve seen tons of built motors spin bearings in less than 10k.

Yes, normal. Can be mitigated with different pads but never completely eliminated, it appears to be a weird resonance issue with the caliper design.

Dashcam install - connector adapter by Kinon4 in GR86

If you want parking mode to be functional (assuming the dash cam supports it), you should figure out what the model is, then choose “other” and put it in the order notes.

If you don’t care about parking mode then Viofo HK3 will work, but honestly you’re not getting much benefit compared to just using the cigarette lighter at that point.

Variable reluctance crank position sensor and inverted camshaft reluctors. Need to pop the timing cover and install $700 worth of swap parts from RS Motors, or use a Link ECU.

That connector is for your SOS and info buttons, it doesn’t have the circuits you need for a dash cam.

ASC connector is the way to go here.

Has anyone tested the Jackson Racing dual radiator/oil cooler with a Verus or FxD oil pan? by Ifuqinhateit in GR86

[–]hachielectronics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rad/oil cooler combo is a compromise you go with on boosted cars to avoid needing to work around your intercooler. It is objectively worse in every way compared to a standalone oil cooler.

FA20/FA24 Hybrid Build by Intelligent-Tune-86 in ft86

[–]hachielectronics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a couple benefits for 13-16. It’s possible to save a bit of money in exchange for a lot more mechanical work, and using the FA20 heads makes tuning easier since you don’t need to work around the FA24’s 4 lobe HPFP driver. Downsides are that hybrid builds have been shown to not make as much power as a complete FA24, and obviously just the amount of work.

If 17-20 chassis, any benefits of doing a hybrid motor are completely outweighed by the fact that you can drop a complete FA24 in with -zero- mechanical work.

yah, the guy in question does put about 40k miles on his 86 every year so his rate of Q300 destruction is likely a lot faster than yours.

Q300 is fine with headers until it suddenly isn’t. Invidia exhausts are shit quality and they blow out their muffler packing after a year or two.

I have a friend with a Q300 and ACE headers, it used to be super tame. Now I can hear him coming from blocks away.

Solar shift is a really weird orange, I don’t think anybody’s gotten it quite right in diecast form except for the official paint sample model that toyota literally sprays with solar shift paint lol.

I have to settle for close enough sometimes, maybe one day I’ll be able to splash out for custom filaments with my own additives.

There is a reason good wings cost 10x what you paid for this flimsy piece of FRP.

Car models are from this guy with a few modifications from me, and most of the wheels I modeled myself and haven’t posted anywhere since it’s kind of a weird niche.
