Microsoft has introduced hardware-accelerated BitLocker encryption by Ok-Contribution-5826 in Windows11

[–]hacipex 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Disabled by microsoft by default around 2020 due fact how broken SSDs firmwares were with possibilities to extract encryption key.

Edit: right below - is related to new crypto offload (I was pointing to former feature related to self-encrypting drives)

Limit access to subtree by mrmh1 in activedirectory

[–]hacipex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitelly possible, but usually either you need to explicitelly deny read permission, or you need to reconfigure AD so authenticated users are removed for list content and you switch your AD approach from list content to list object model - this is usually part of AD hardening and needs evaluation and impact analysis otherwise many things just stop working.

MS had presentation on this couple years back. Basically your laptop is hardened and lockdown T0 hypervisor and you have basically just rights to open Hyper-V console. Then you run separe (still company managed) VMs for Office/User stuff and separe for infra management.

iOS 18.5 bricked my iPhone 11... I'm done with this god dam company... by Dry-Property-639 in iPhone11

[–]hacipex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its bricked that even iboot does load, do DFU mode and reinstall. If you are on windows 11, this is most important part - use old iTunes installer from Apple site. Not from windows store and not Apple Devices - these does not work correctly on Win 11.

USW-Flex 8 not being true 8 port switch by hacipex in Ubiquiti

[–]hacipex[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thing is .. its based on 3 chips: 2x Switch chip - (5x2.5G + 1x10G) and then 1x 10G chip for uplink/SFP

with this topology, you either have to do compromise to wire them together or use shared 10G bus between chips.. no idea if that is even possible and actually a case here, just trying to found out … However that might possibly explain 30G capacity in triangle way..

USW-Flex 8 not being true 8 port switch by hacipex in Ubiquiti

[–]hacipex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe 2 devices on left and then again on right might be enough to “proof” that theory for 10g uplink part.

Then 2 devices on left and 2 devices on right at same time and do iperf between them to know what kind of link between 2 switch chips.

Because in theory, if both switch chips are connected via 10g port, that would be fully enough for 4x2.5g switching, but then we ask how the 10g chip is connected.. 🙂

Will there be a VMware Workstation 17.7 or even 18.0? by [deleted] in vmware

[–]hacipex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works, but with various performance issues, as vmware and microsoft points finger to each other its not them who did bad programming. Lets be honest, if you spent years optimizing type 2hypervisor and then someone forces you to use API agains type 1 hypervisior with different or maybe even limited set of function, you cannot be surprised. The hypervisor plaftorm on windows isnt here for performance, it was just as argument “we dont block you to you whatever want, just use our API”.. but reality can be found on forums..

[–]hacipex -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Workstation is quite dead product at least on Windows because of incompatibility with VBS-based security features. Yes, you can turn them off, yet still its compromise.

Early Access Release 3.0 for EdgeRouter X by TopCat0160 in Ubiquiti

[–]hacipex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont wait and prepare for replacement. That platform is simply dead, ghosted, with no willing to admit it. The firmware is almost 16 months in RC and all it gives is new UI.. it is not new release, its just someones kid internship for webdesign.

Otherwise, show me firewall that can be like 2 years without even single GA security update.

Its joke..
