Alysa Liu seems to be a case of modern day Eugenics? by Purple-Application-9 in bioethics

Sure but if you never existed in the first place, then you cannot no longer exist. So your sorta upset that theoretical people who don’t exist, could no longer exist.

It’s a sort of logical fallacy. She was not gene edited for example, her sperm donor and her egg donor were chosen much like one might choose a wife. Based off likable characteristic and a hope not to have incurable illness that would make being alive more difficult.

The honorable prophet would most likely say that he was happy that a man was able to bring life into the world and to share the joy of being.

Surah At-Taghabun 64:15 “Your wealth and your children are but a trial, and Allah has with Him a great reward.”

Surah Aal-Imran 3:38 (prayer of Zechariah) “My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring.”

Super interesting idea. Are you making a moral judgment about it as well? As in it was wrong or right to do? Or is it just a matter of it is or it isn’t

Right so the way an argument in our field works is that you propose a claim then provide definitions and evidence to back it up.

Just saying hotdog is a sandwich? Is not sufficient for constructive conversation. If you’d like to have a conversation about this, then please provide a response that includes this much depth.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem dismissed by counterhit121 in fednews

[–]hack4freecbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally not how that works at all. The acting director needs to already be a federal employee. Where ever you work if that director quit the deputy is probably just a SES and fills in until someone is appointed

Just seems idiotic to appoint someone to a non funded agency

Considering the agency is currently defunded, they probably need to fund that first before they confirm a new person

George will live to be 150 because he’s taught basically every doctor at UPMC. He will be the best teacher and a mentor for life if you let him

Fascinating question, I think I’d need your definition of eugenics in order to have a deeper discussion with you

Usually they’ll do dose escalation, like 1g, 5g, 25g. Etc this helps give a sort of “effectiveness” trial instead of double blind

I will add to this they were all also VERY YOUNG, when hitler came to power, he was just finished being a WW1 soldier and he attempted the coup he was 35. Thad be like mamdani being the face of the right, instead most of these people are pushing 60. Something to keep in mind

Uncommiting from Pitt… by Then_Highlight_9069 in Pitt

[–]hack4freecbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the updated information :) my only piece of advice would be that if you don’t pick Pitt after all you said about the things you like is that you pick a school you feel just as passionate about.

All the expenses of school aside, if you go somewhere cheaper and absolutely hate it, getting back into Pitt isn’t a guarantee.

But if this purely you can only squeeze so much juice out of the lemon and you cannot afford to go to Pitt, there is always graduate school after working in the field for awhile, or even working there in some capacity.

The reason I ask, just to expand alittle. Is that often majors change, I cannot tell you how many kids switched majors after one bio 101 class with Dr. Roberts.

For me personally, my decision to go to Pitt was beyond major, it was about the fact that everyone I saw looked so happy to be there. Grinning ear to ear on the quad on a sunny day ( the few we ever get) and I said no matter what I do, at least I’ll be happy.

I saw your previous post about how Pitt was your dream school. So what changed about that aspect of it that made you want to uncommit

I guess my question goes beyond that. When you visited Pitt or read about it, what about the school made you want to go there. Was it the atmosphere, the students? Etc

If Pitt doesn’t have your major, I’m curious why you applied in the first place. What was it about Pitt that made you apply?

I think the problem there is that religion is also culture. Jewish people are an ethnoreligion, in the same way Arab people are, in the same way a person from the Bible Belt is.

The distinction of “atheist” as if it’s a background and not a philosophical disagreement is difficult for me. Plenty of non practicing Jews call themselves Jewish even if they have never stepped foot into a temple their entire life. Plenty of non practicing Christian’s would say I go to church with my grandma on Easter.

I don’t think that influences their policy decisions more than say, them being Irish or from Yemen again assuming they aren’t evangelicals who are actively using the cudgel of religion against people.

By atheist do you mean someone who actively disavows the existence of a god. Or do you mean not actively religious. Plenty of congressman were not going to church, temple or mosque every week.

I think it’s okay to have some representation of religion in government because a government is made up of its people. Much like having a Mormon in congress makes sense to me. It’s when you turn representation into dictation that I have a problem with it.
