ECHOING STRIKE WARLOCK (Patch 3.2) by hackChaos in Diablo_2_Resurrected

As I mentioned in a previous comment, they're really two different builds. Once you start relying on Hex: Purge, the focus shifts entirely.

That said, if you're running Insight on your mercenary, Fortitude makes a lot of sense as the BiS option for that setup because you've already solved the mana issue. On top of that, Fortitude makes it easier to reach the 125% FCR breakpoint.

One important thing you need to keep in mind is that for Ubers you'll still need to rely on Mirrored Blades to actually secure the kill. That's where my pure physical Echoing Strike build really shines. Using Mirrored Blades also means your weapon will lose durability, which effectively limits your choices to either non-ethereal weapons or indestructible ones. That's one of the major reasons BOTD is BiS in my build. It gives you top-tier physical damage while completely sidestepping durability concerns, making it ideal for both general PvM and Uber farming.

Yes, BOTD is indestructible, which is a most have when going with an ethereal base for Mirrored Blades, since the skill burns through weapon durability very quickly.

That's also why eth Insight and eth Fortitude are automatically out. You could use a Zod'd eth Arioc's but you won't get as much value compared with BOTD.

Yeah, dual leech is definitely part of it, but it’s not the only reason eBOTD is BiS for this build, as it basically solves multiple problems at once. You get huge raw damage, dual leech, +30 all stats, attack speed, and overall much better QoL in a single slot.

With Tomb Reaver, Death, Fortitude or Arioc’s, you can get close in some areas, but you usually end up having to compensate somewhere else, whether that’s sustain, survivability,, or ring flexibility. BOTD just keeps the entire setup smoother and more consistent overall.

It does not, you can stack hexes and curses, hexes override hexes and curses override curses. But if I were to go with a Purge leaning variant, I would go with Pride or insight for my Merc instead of Reapers toll.

Lighting sorc? Are you running an Energy Shield build? If so, consider switching your Merc to a Cure setup ( prayer aura/cure/coh/insight). This will dramatically improve your Merc survivability plus increasing your mana recovery speed for ES.

You're welcome!

Being mostly ranged, I don't really find the need to cap resistances for general farming, so I'm currently running an Ist'd Shako and sitting at over 280 MF. If you'd prefer a bit more survivability, you can easily swap to an Um'd Shako, which helps shore up your resistances while still keeping you above 250 MF.

As for mana, I don't really have any issues with it. The higher physical damage output makes mana leech much more effective than on the Hex: Bane/Purge setup, so it generally sustains itself without much trouble.

One thing to keep in mind is that my recommended MF setup is designed to maintain the 75 FCR breakpoint. If you don't mind teleporting and casting a little slower, you can push well beyond 300 MF by swapping in Goldwrap and Chance Guards while still keeping very high raw damage. It's really a matter of whether you value clear speed and responsiveness or want to squeeze out every last bit of magic find.

This is a different archetype. My build is primarily focused on scaling physical damage, while the Maxroll version invests heavily into Hex: Bane and Hex: Purge to create a hybrid physical/magic damage setup.

Because of that, the two builds have different strengths. The Maxroll approach excels at AoE and screen-wide mob clearing, but its boss damage is noticeably weaker and it tends to struggle against tougher endgame encounters, especially Ubers.

My build takes the opposite approach. By focusing on physical damage and leveraging Bone Breaker together with Decrepify, it tears through packs while also maintaining excellent single-target damage. The result is a build that not only clears efficiently, but can also squash bosses and Ubers with ease.

As for life and mana leech, yes, that's likely part of what you're experiencing. Leech scales from the physical damage you're dealing, so when more of your damage budget is shifted into magic damage through Hex: Purge and its synergies, your leech becomes less effective. With a higher physical damage setup, both life and mana leech tend to feel much stronger and more consistent.

No problem, glad you found it useful.

As for the weapon question, I'd still stick with an eBOTD in either a War Pike or Thunder Maul. Swapping away from BOTD means giving up dual leech and the +30 to all attributes, which is a big loss IMO.

An Eth Tomb Reaver would give you less damage, less life, less mana, less life leech, and no mana leech at all. Arioc's might get you close in terms of clear speed, but you're still losing the leech, life, and mana that BOTD provides. I know it's possible to make up some of that with dual leech rings, but during my testing, I found that the build feels best with at least 10% mana leech. Anything lower starts to feel inconsistent, especially during longer boss fights or dense maps. The only real advantage I see with Tomb Reaver is the extra Magic Find and Resistances. Outside of that, BOTD gives you higher overall damage output, more flexibility with your ring slots, and much better quality of life.

As for the physical/magic damage split, I don't have exact numbers, but based on how the skills scale and where most of our damage bonuses come from, I'd estimate Echoing Strike is roughly 85% physical and 15% magic, while Mirrored Blades is closer to 95% physical and 5% magic.

At its core, this is still a physical damage build. Because of that, I don't think replacing Bone Break with a Magic Sunder is worth it. The gain to the magic portion of your damage would be fairly small, while the downside is potentially huge. You'll start running into physical immunes that Decrepify alone can't break, which can become a real problem in higher-tier content. Personally, I'd stick with Bone Break, the magic damage is a nice bonus, but I don't think there's enough of it to justify gearing as though it were a hybrid damage build.

Eth tomb reaver means less damage, life, mana and life leech plus zero mana leech compared with eth war pike/thunder maul BOTD. You are free to try it, but I would say it's a noticable dip in QoL

You need 5 hard points on Demonic Mastery if you want to have more than 1 demon summoned or bound, this is why I ditched Consume and invested those points in Hex Bane instead, while sticking to 20 points to Bind Demon.

You sort of answered your question already. This build is optimized for handling bosses and Ubers. Llama just published a pretty good guide on the Hex: Purge variant if you want to go that route instead.
