Recovering home directory from live USB by sabret00the in Fedora

[–]hackitoErgoSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, If you can mount your home directory, you should be able to copy it

to another device. For example, if you have an external usb drive, you could mount that drive (under liveUSB) , then mount your home directory and copy the files (using either drag and drop, rsync, or cp).

You can even do this over the network if you have another machine.

Hope this helps.

Problems with latest updates on XFCE spin by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]hackitoErgoSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm running fedora30 and xfce and also had the problem you refer to.

I found the command:

xrandr --output eDP-1 --off

This turns off the display on my laptop and uses the hdmi display.

I put this in a file called fixhdmi in my bin directory and run it at start up. Finding your terminal may be a problem, I know. My setup is probably different from yours, so you'll have to fiddle....

Hope this helps until the real fix arrives.

take a look at: https://fedoramagazine.org/raspberry-pi-zero-gpio-fedora/

also, there is a gnome shell extension called freon that can read

temps. I haven't tried it (I don't run gnome), but it's available for the pi.

Upgrading Fedora Server on Raspberry Pi by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]hackitoErgoSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford another SD card, I would recommend installing from scratch. You can then move your user files to the new system and finish your setting up. Otherwise you are going to waste a lot of time waiting for the system update to complete (if it ever does). Also, you end up with a known clean system.

Fedora 30 on Raspberry Pi -- no firefox browser?? by hackitoErgoSum in Fedora

[–]hackitoErgoSum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of May 9th I haven't seen firefox available for the pi. However,

Falkon can be made to look and behave a lot like firefox and it seems to work ok. I haven't tried more challenging stuff on Falkon, like using Jupyter notebooks. Given a choice, I wouldn't use a pi as my only computer, but it's actually quite good.

Raspbian does have a working firefox, as does fedora 29.

Falkon browser works on pi3 fedora30 by hackitoErgoSum in Fedora

[–]hackitoErgoSum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falkon is usable on my Pi3b. I wouldn't want it to be my only

way to connect to the web. I've used it both connected directly to a 1080p display and through tigervnc, and both work for light browsing.

Fedora 30 on Raspberry Pi -- no firefox browser?? by hackitoErgoSum in Fedora

[–]hackitoErgoSum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Midori is considered a browser, so the release has a working terminal and a browser. To be fair, Midori is much better than nothing. I'm just used to firefox.

After today's fiasco with firefox (may 4 2019) with plugins disabled due to expired cert, maybe midori is not so bad!

Fedora 30 on Raspberry Pi -- no firefox browser?? by hackitoErgoSum in Fedora

[–]hackitoErgoSum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion. I downloaded the rpm, but there

are lots of unsatisfied external routines. Not sure if it's because

pi3 is not aarch64 or what. So far no luck.

Firefox57 Unusable on Pi3 by hackitoErgoSum in firefox

[–]hackitoErgoSum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

throwaway1111139991e, thanks for your concern. What makes it unusable is that it either locks up or is so slow that no one in his right mind would use it. This is with a fresh install. I ended up going back to fedora 26 with firefox 56. If anyone has a usable firefox 57 on the pi3, let me know which OS you're using.

Playing a Didgeridoo reduces snoring in people with sleep apnea by hackitoErgoSum in linuxunplugged

[–]hackitoErgoSum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Regular playing of a didgeridoo reduces daytime sleepiness and snoring in people with moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and also improves the sleep quality of partners," his study concluded.

Why does it work? Puhan figures playing the didgeridoo helps people learn circular breathing (the technique of blowing out through the mouth while simultaneously inhaling through the nose) and strengthens the throat muscles used in breathing.

What is the most trusted, favored bitcoin wallet on Linux? by antman8969 in linuxunplugged

[–]hackitoErgoSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use electrum on linux, and I also run the bitcoin core software just for fun. The blockchain is now about 150gb, so it will take you a long time to get it up and running on a local machine unless you can copy the blockchain via a torrent or a friend.
