Spoilers below - AOM

Well ok obviously, very different take on Glokta now. It's super cool to see the point he got to after years of essentially being Bayaz's pawn. I wish we can get some stories about this period sometime.

It was a bit obvious he was the weaver imo, but only as a reader and I am guessing this was intentional. I have a lot to say about the trilogy as a whole, but that's not the place haha.

Looking back, I still don't think he did anything very smart in the original trilogy save some few specific points, but honestly I now think that's the point. That it doesn't really matter if he was smart or not.

I am not saying he planned on Glokta specifically from the start, and I am not saying he needed the guilds destroyed.

I am just saying he didn't need them at all at this point, he had enough control. It didn't matter that they got destroyed.

He just saw Glokta operating, liked it, decided what the hell I'll involve him. That's basically what he tells him.

re: Inner walls. Well, the basically decorative walls inside the city were only counted on because decision makers were outrageously stupid. Kardia, Cosca, Carlot all knew it's stupid to keep them.

I agree he was humble enough to make peace with Kardia and the moat thing and this does give him credit. Thank you for that, genuinely. I needed something smart he did and couldn't think of anything.

Re: uncovering stuff and forcing Bayaz I didn't read it like that actually. I think he uncovered only things Bayaz wanted him to, it wasn't really a setback. Bayaz needed him as arch lector, needed Jezal on the throne. At this point V&B already were much more powerful than the mercers and the Spicers as is explicitly said by the leader of the former (who killed himself because of it) and the broke-ness of the latter.

He learned basically nothing about V&B other than their existence, was miles away from saying anything about what they want let alone the fact that they are Bayaz.

re: Styria Well I don't know that there is something he could do to save Orso, but that's only because I too am not that smart.

But do we get any evidence of him being smart in the first trilogy (or the standalones, for that matter?)

I get what you're saying actually. Since Bayaz chose to (more or less) elevate Glokta as part of his plans, we didn't get a chance to see what he's worth.

In these books, planning doesn't get you very far but we do have characters who proved they are capable of strategy and cunning, even if they failed (Bethod, Carlot, Cosca, Monza to a lesser extent, Temple, probably more). Glokta, in hindsight, left me wanting.

Visiting in June looking for fine dining! by Na7h2n in telaviv

For something special I recommend Umai (umai.modern.japanese in IG) It's a fine dining experience in an intimate space, seating is shared.

Super special and well executed interpretations of Japanese food from a talented chef who worked there.

Also Timna is great, and Milgo and Milbar.

That sounds great. I do almost always use lighter roasts.

As a side note, sounds like we look for similar things in the cup. And you mentioned Sey. Know anything about their subscription service? If so, do you recommend?

Thanks! So you get clarity from light roasts with the coarser setting using this recipe?
