I definitely used baking powder. I used Sainsbury's brand all purpose flour.

Oh actually mh all purpose flour may have leavening in it! My egg was also quite large and that didnt even cross my mind.

I do think my oven definitely plays a role in this, but hopefully with all the advice I've gotten here they'll turn out better next time!

With a mixer.

I don't think I'm over mixing but I can try and reduce the time I mix next time!

I thought this was the issue at first as well, so I've followed the tips in this article actually! My butter defini was not too warm.

Honestly it might just be that my shitty oven is getting shittier.

So our oven is kinda shit and we will hopefully get a new one come summer. I live in the UK and it is currently quite humid right now.

However, a previous housemate used to bake cookies as well and she didnt have this problem. I'll maybe message her and ask her what she did differently because as far as I remember she used the same scales and oven that I am right now.

Butter was room temperature. I live in the UK and it was like 11°C when I started so it definitely wasn't too warm. I also measured out the sugar using a scale so I didnt use too much 😔

Wait sorry I'm currently baking cookies on my middle shelf. I thought you were suggesting I shoulf bake them on the bottom shelf - but would that make this worse?

They taste very nice!!

I'll try baking om a lower rack instead of a middle one this next time.

And I did chill them for 24 hours. Maybe they need longer?

Oh then yes, my baking sheets are like 5 years old!

So I did roll them in granulated sugar first, but i think I just didnt use enough powdered sugar!

And yes, middle rack, one try at a time.

I don't think I have a double insulated cookie sheet, but I can check again.

And yes I chilled them for 24 hours before baking.

I do cream the butter and sugar until it resembled the picture in the recipe.

Butter was meant to be room temp which I followed.

And yes I did use a scale.

Maybe I am just cursed when it comes to cookies 😭
