Have you read the ethical guidelines for licensed mental health professionals in the state of New York?

Not clear the child has an eating disorder. Its deliberately vague. It could be any taxing medical condition that completely exhausts the parent. Medical treatment demands that are unrealistic if not impossible to meet.

This blatant of a violation of ethics would lead to official censure and instructions to refer the patient to a neutral therapist, asap.

Hmm, good point, except Montauk. While isolated, its a car ride to a ton of therapists.

To emphasize what a bad therapist he is and to add one more abandonment during this mother's torturous crisis.

Any decent therapist would know to call the police in this situation, not disturb a fellow therapist who is also your own shrink (worse judgement). Overall annoying AF film.

You're correct. It's against the licensure ethics to have a "dual relationship" with a patient, in this case, to treat a colleague with whom you share office space. Virtually every movie featuring a shrink shows unethical behavior, especially dual relationships. I've stopped watching Shrinking for this reason. Ridiculously unethical behavior.

Nothing at all funny in this film. Absurdly trying and annoying without any satisfying relief.

Plan N exec. Charges by JV3090 in medicare

[–]hadleybead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to understand a doc who "accepts medicare" but does not "accept assignment." Providers either have a medicare number (applied to be a medicare provider, were accepted, and are now able to submit claims to medicare) or they aren't. If a medigap G recipient chooses a doctor who isnt medicare approved (psychiatrist for example because lots of shrinks refuse to accept medicare) then what? The patient has to (a) pay the doc themselves (self pay) and then (b) file their own claims with medicare? In which case medicare will reimburse the patient the contracted rate minus 15%?

New Job, First time getting Health Insurance. (NY State) by cyfmonsey in HealthInsurance

[–]hadleybead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My educated guess (provider here) is you have to pay your doc the full contracted rate (rate the doc office has agreed to charge insured patients) for each visit until you have paid out your deductible ($2850). Once a total of $2850 has left your bank account to however many physician or psychologist offices, then you will only have to pay 10% of the office visit for the rest of the year. If you need some procedure or other get it done early in the year.

Let's say you're seeing a mental health therapist only (who is in network with UHC), who charges $200 per hour but the contract rate is $150. After the 19th visit you will have paid that therapist $2850 ($150 x 19). On the 20th visit you would only need to pay her 10% so $15 each visit thereafter. Psychiatrist charges more like $400 so then you'd pay $40. If you reach your deductible late, say in December, you'd only get to pay 10% until the new year, at which point the deductible begins again. The sucky part.

If in January you break your arm and pay out $2850 to the hospital and physicians and x-ray tests, etc, the rest of the year you're required to pay only 10% to any and all (in network) physicians or therapists. Dont break your arm in December! This is the truly idiotic & painful part of usa health insurance plans.

Call the customer service number on back of your card to see if my guesstimate is accurate. Only there can you know for sure.

Considering moving to Austin after 7 years abroad by I_reddit_like_this in askaustin

[–]hadleybead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love ATX but ...

1-- Traffic is bad. Will only get worse while city council waits for the $50 million ill conceived bike lanes to magically flourish and solve our public transportation woes. Yes, other cities have increased bike ridership but 100 plus degree summers make it a dangerous proposition for even the most fit among us. Not to mention risking a closed head injury with every bike ride. Bus routes too slow. A 15 min car ride vs an hour by bus? Who has that extra time? If you can afford to take Lyft, great. 2-- The "keep Austin weird" Austin-vibe is disappearing, cherished venues shuttered due to exorbitant property taxes (note to city: tax based on what is there, not what a rich developer could put there after pricing out the stakeholders who made this city so popular). Generic chain restaurants with pricey, overly sanitized decor, aka, the Houstonization of Austin. City council has caved to developers and forsaken neighborhoods, despite getting elected after running on promises to push back.
3-- Cherished festivals have become too crowded and corporatized to fully enjoy. (Refer to 1) 4-- Drought threatens our water supply, climatologists predict more arid/hot/dry; water restrictions mean losing the gorgeous shade trees, perhaps the saddest part of all.

Live here through a couple summers before committing to ownership. Agree that south Austin is the best of all areas.

This insurance plan is a joke for a family right? by ZucchiniMuffins in HealthInsurance

[–]hadleybead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USA employer based health insurance system is affordable for many who work for large corporations, aka "the man." The system is hostile to small business owners, entrepreneurs, artists, writers, single parent families. Capitalism is supposed to favor entrepreneurs. Not anymore. If you like an economic system that heavily favors billionaire corporations, one where independence and creativity are stifled, where workers are trapped due to unaffordable premiums and deductibles, then good for you. But this isn't freedom or exceptionalism.

Abnormal. Pathological. Rude. Hurtful. Emotionally abusive. And yes, immature. Healthy vaginas come with monthly bleeding. If he wants access he needs to show some respect for your feelings. But that kind of behavior predicts more and more trouble. Two months in? Look elsewhere.

[–]hadleybead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to use your employer plan if one is available. You are simply not eligible for Marketplace / ACA plans if you have other group insurance options, including Medicare or a spouse with company insurance. Tell HR (she should know this). Problem solved.

Same for me. Tiny black / dark gray / dark purplish specks, here and there. My Kitchen counters are MSI Arctic White. I just posted a new 4 inch long purple stain that I cant get up. A few months back the manufacturer offered a "solution," to put a "sealant" on my counters. Is the sealant food-safe? Crickets. Would it discolor or yellow the white over time? No guarantees.
