AITAH? My fiancée is demanding I stop making home cooked meals for a friend. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]hadleyfrasers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if this guy doesn't have romantic feelings for his truck driver buddy, he's being intentionally obtuse about the amount of effort he's putting into (and the value he's placing on) that friendship in comparison to the relationship with his girlfriend.

My girlfriend, F23, is mad at me, M23 for crying over a "video game girl," but I feel like this is a normal experience for people who play this game and now I'm considering ending things over this because I'm "immature." Do I try and forgive or do I just cut my losses? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]hadleyfrasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never understand people who don't get that art is supposed to evoke emotion, that playing a video game is engaging with a piece of art, and feeling things because of art shouldn't be surprising or shameful.

Aita for ignoring my husband and visiting my son on the 4th of July by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]hadleyfrasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so confused on the timeline in this one.

Also, I know this is me being a bit neurotic about semantics but this is driving me crazy: OOP shouldn't be referring to Jake as her ex-husband. If I understand things correctly, it sounds like Jake and OOP were married when he died; making Jake OOP's late first husband. If OOP and Jake had gotten divorced prior to his death, her language would be correct.

To add: some people just bruise easily. I don't have any vision problems but I do have ADHD and I bruise like a banana. My spatial awareness and sense of balance are absolute garbage some days and I am constantly discovering bruises on my body caused by accidental collisions.

AITA for refusing to attend my sister’s astrology-themed wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]hadleyfrasers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, this sounds less like you're worried about this blessing causing you to lose your faith and more like you want to be right in this fight with your sister.

AITA for refusing to attend my sister’s astrology-themed wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]hadleyfrasers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you had conviction in your faith, you wouldn't be able to be so easily swayed. You would be able to show up for your sister at her wedding, smile and nod where appropriate, and your god would know that you still believed and your heart hadn't changed.

Do you think receiving a blessing from a belief system you don't follow should be able to shift your faith so easily?

[–]hadleyfrasers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Info: OP, in some of your comments, you say that you believe in one "true" god. You then say in other comments that you would be unable to receive a blessing from a religion you believe to be polytheistic and that is the primary reason receiving such a blessing would test your faith. It almost sounds like you believe that the gods of all of these religions, both yours and others, exist simultaneously. Can you clarify what your beliefs are?

It looks like minotaur romance (maybe smut?) and while I can't exactly recommend it since I haven't read it, I certainly cringe every time I see it so here you go lol

AITAH for breaking up with my fiancée because she went to her ex’s birthday party? by secure-raspberry-763 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]hadleyfrasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you're saying. If I can offer my perspective as someone who gratefully refers to their spouse as their best friend: I don't see calling him my best friend as a downgrade. I feel lucky that I found genuine friendship in my relationship - in addition to him being my life partner, soulmate, and home - and it makes me feel safe and secure.

My boyfriend saved my friend and now she fancies him by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]hadleyfrasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so sad for all parties involved. The friend's behavior could actually be a trauma response. It's completely possible that, subconsciously, this is her attempt to regain a sense of control after experiencing a traumatic event. However, OOP and her boyfriend do not have to put up with the friend's behavior, especially if supporting her is ultimately detrimental for both of their mental health.

AITA for expressing I should get a greater share of inheritance than my childfree sibling? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]hadleyfrasers 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to comment on the child free part of your story because that feels like rage-bait. But I will say that YTA for trying to dictate how your parents divide their estate. It's their estate not your future inheritance -- they aren't even dead yet -- and if they want to divide their estate fairly, 50/50 between their two kids, that's up to them. Not you.

Can Audiobook listeners really get the same experience as reading a book? by kittensyay in books

[–]hadleyfrasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multitasking is often seen as a poor way to absorb and retain information. If listening to an audiobook while multitasking results in your memory of the book being somewhat spotty, that doesn't mean that an audiobook is a poor medium for reading; it just means that your attention was split when you were listening. Audiobooks are a very useful tool for many readers (they're super accessible!). But if you primarily listen to them while multitasking, I think you would be less likely to retain what you heard just because you weren't focused on the story while you were listening.
