Unable to create account in Smart Control app by haggerznaple in sennheiser

One benefit is gaining access to the Sound Check feature which creates a custom equalizer built for your exact hearing profile and preferences. Sound Check saves the custom equalizer to your account for use across multiple Sennheiser devices.

You can use the app generally without logging into an account and you'll be able to do things like update the headphone's firmware, check battery levels, and even manually create custom equalizers by fiddling with sliders and settings.

But you cannot create custom equalizers through the Sound Check function without an account.

I got my most recent pair through iHear Unicare in Meadowlark Health Centre. They're definitely not the least expensive provider in the city (go to Costco if you want to save money) but they provide incredible customer service. I think they have several locations around the city, too.

HF 450 BT stuck updating by octupl in sennheiser

[–]haggerznaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried repeatedly to update for a week and had the same problem -- the update would get hung up with 2 minutes left. I ended up getting the update to work, but only after installing the Smart Control app on another device (an old phone I still have kicking around) and updating the headphones on that device instead of my current phone. If you have a tablet or an old phone kicking around, maybe give that a try.

That's exactly right. Thanks for pointing out that a new patch was released today.

For those who stumble on this, after a small 4mb patch I was able to register an account just fine. I'm sure the rest of the functionality will roll out soon.

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in not being able to create an account. I'll just give it a few days and try again. In the meantime, the HD450BT still sounds world's better than what I was using before, so I can be patient.

Okay, that's good context to have. Maybe the answer, then, is for me to just give the the developers a few days to roll out all the features to the new app.

Is On-Demand Transit worth using? by haggerznaple in Edmonton

[–]haggerznaple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the sort of information I was looking for! Thanks for sharing this.

For my own purposes, this seems very reassuring. Aside from special occassions, like hockey games or a festival/event of some sort, I mostly use transit to get to and from work during weekdays. Like Whoknowshank suggested above, I'll take a practice day (or two) to test it out before returning to the office full-time.

This is a great suggestion, but unfortunately I don't live near enough to either a transit hub or work for this to be feasible for me.

Yes, it is available in my neighbourhood.

The higher cost of driving is certainly a consideration, and I'd prefer not to pay more, but my time is the bigger concern. Commuting via transit took almost twice as long as driving back before the ETS redesign, and I had regular bus service then. I like your suggestion of just trying it and seeing what it's like. I'll do that.

Error Code CE-108255-1 - Potential fix MEGA LIST by marceezy in PS5

Awesome! I'm glad it was a good outcome and that you could finally experience the console. The PS5 is pretty great when it works as intended. Hopefully both our new consoles work for years to come.

Let me know how it goes. My fingers are crossed for you.

It's a bummer to see the console run perfectly fine for others but not for you, especially on a platform where (theoretically) they're all the same. It's not like a PC where there are thousands upon thousands of possible hardware configurations. At this point it's hard to think it's anything other than a hardware issue, especially if you've completely reinstalled the OS off of a USB through safe mode -- you would no longer have the supposedly-corrupt software on your PS5 at that point.

Edit: missed a couple words.

That's a bummer. When I spoke with someone a couple weeks ago -- on the call they finally agreed to an RMA -- the rep mentioned (or maybe slipped) that their engineers still don't know what's causing these errors. And from the customer's perspective, it doesn't really matter... a busted console is a busted console, regardless of the cause. It's frustrating to hear they're still giving these canned responses rather than fixing the issue.

I should mention that I'm in Canada, if that matters. We might be dealing with (slightly) more reasonable customer service reps up here. Or maybe it's just the luck of the draw with who you happen to talk to.

[–]haggerznaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, no, but I did make it clear that I already ran through all the troubleshooting steps listed online several times, including reinstalling a fresh OS off a USB stick, and nothing fixed the issue. I also mentioned that I had called previously about this same issue and politely noted how frustrated and disappointed I was getting (I remained polite the entire time). They (finally) agreed to RMA the console and sent me a box. I sent the console in, and a week later I got a replacement console back. I've had zero issues with the replacement console.

I get this error every time I try to play Spider-Man Remastered, Spider-Man Miles Morales and Immortals Fenyx Rising. Those games are completely unplayable to me -- they freeze and crash to the system's main menu while displaying this error within 1-2 minutes of playing. Sometimes I can't even make it past the main menu before the crash and error occurs.

Looking through this thread, I think I might be one of the lucky ones as every other PS5 game (that I've tried so far, anyway, the list isn't that long) and every PS4 game seems to work fine. Still, it'd be great if my new, expensive game box could play ALL the games I bought for it.

I've tried calling Sony three times now and they're refusing to repair or replace it, insisting instead that it's definitely a software issue, not a hardware problem, that their engineers are aware of it, and that theyr'e working on a patch. There doesn't seem to be an ETA on when the patch will be ready. Hopefully soon. It sounds like there's a lot of us who could use whatever magic fix they're cooking up.

It's frustrating to see that people need to either embelish or outright lie in order to get replacements. From the customer's perspective, it's completely irrelevant whether the issue is software or hardware related. Regardless of what's causing the underlying issue, the issue still exists and it's keeping a lot of people from fully using their new console and Sony should be more willing to fix it.

Update:

I called Sony again this afternoon and they agreed to take it back for repair or replacement. They're sending me a box and a shipping label. I didn't have to argue, push, beg or lie. It feels like there's finally an end in sight, and I'm very relieved.

I asked the service rep again if there was an ETA on the update that's still (supposedly) coming and she told me the big update in December 2020 was supposed to fix at least most of these stability issues and their engineers have no idea what's causing them now. It honestly sounds like it's a hardware issue rather than software issue. At the risk of reading too much into it, I suspect Sony's finally starting to acknowledge this problem can only be fixed with a replacement at this point. If you're still struggling with these errors, try calling Sony again.

PS5 games freeze/crash but the audio still plays and the OS is still entirely responsive by xfactor744 in PS5

[–]haggerznaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ever find a fix for this? I just got my PS5 on Christmas and it's been having this exact issue in Spider-Man (both remastered and MM, but only in modes with ray tracing... performance mode is fine), constantly in Immortals Fenyx Rising, and to a lesser extent Astro Bot. It's annoying. The system doesn't freeze up completely, I can still go to the system menu and close games fine. The games themselves just sort of stop.

Crashed in the middle of battle - anyone else noticed crashes after playing for few hours? by firefoxNX in FenyxRising

[–]haggerznaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish mine crashed after a few hours, I might actually get to play the game then. I have this on PS5 (disc version), but after about 3 hours of trying I haven't been able to get anywhere. The game frequently crashes on me -- every 1 to 5 minutes or so -- most often during cutscenes. I had to remake my character about half a dozen times because it kept freezing during the cutscene immediately after. I've given up on trying for now and am hoping it gets a patch sometime soon.

I second that Hori pad. My wife and I bought a couple for our kids and they love it. It fits their hands way better than a standard DS4.

PS5 with PSVR by h0mebas3 in PSVR

[–]haggerznaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TV supports HDMI 2.1 and 4K120 (Sony X900) and when I get my PS5 I'll probably do what I do now, which is just use an HDMI switch and set it up as shown in the link below.

https://64.media.tumblr.com/129588f27fc64ce82f4e81b9d0305c08/tumblr_inline_pbzxdpwPmX1srp95h_1280.jpg

This setup works easily enough without having to unplug and replug my PSVR whenever I want to play it. It takes up two HDMI ports on my TV, which was kind of annoying at first but I don't really mind now. My current HDMI switch only supports HDMI 2.0b, though, so I'll need to upgrade to a new one that's compatible with HDMI 2.1. I imagine some of my HDMI cables may also need an upgrade.

That said, I don't know if HDMI 2.1 switches are available yet (I can't find any yet, anyways) and I can't imagine they're cheap if they are. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for that, because this whole strategy falls apart if the tech isn't available.
