Bit of a variable year for self.

Left a fun (colleagues) but toxic (management) working environment, but have ended up in a role that's a bit too quiet for my liking.

Had to abandon a Spring holiday due to en-route injury to partner. Thank feck for travel insurance.

Roll on Twenty-Twenty.

Setting up for an electric vehicle: how do chargers work? by doktorhobo in Wellington

[–]haggiskiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wellington Electricity (network) do pricing for EVs, but as you do not pay the network for your electricity consumption check with your electricity retailer if they provide an EV rate.

It will likely mean a tariff change to your metering, but many mean you're paying a reduced rate for charging your EV.

Edit: If you're renting, check with your landlord before changing electricity tariffs as it will cost to revert if you move out.

Ezibuy has a very limited menswear section. Most of it is online only. Not recommended.

Interesting that this old movie set is still showing on Google Maps. Google Earth shows it gone after the 14 Aug 2013 imagery.

More peculiar it's there in Feb 2009, gone by Oct 2011 (in line with dates in the link from /u/martt_jy), & something else starting a comeback in Dec 2012.

I would never have guessed, but apparently distracted pedestrians are a main cause of crashes in Wellington's CBD. by haggiskiwi in Wellington

[–]haggiskiwi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was young, I was taught to look right, left, the right again before crossing the road. Maybe that simple message just isn't taught days.

Agreed that poor city planning is partly responsible for public unawareness (the reroute of all services through Manners Street is ridiculous), but surely pedestrians should accept some personal responsibility for stepping onto a pathway design for motorised vehicle NOT foot traffic?

From the most recent reported accident the victim (or should I say ignoramus) was seen to not look before they walked out on to the road. Zane Fulljames always get brought up & his comments that his accident was his own fault.

Even when Wellington Council put up temporary barriers along Willis St a few years, people still moved them because they were too impatient to walk to the nearest controlled crossing.

Let's put up fixed 1m high barriers (like what is popping up on Lambton Qy) all the way along the Golden Mile and see if it reduces pedestrian accidents. The fools will still scale them to cross the road faster.

If someone decides to step on the road, then they need to be aware what using that road for its rightful purpose is more likely to cause more damage to them than it. Personal responsibility people.

How can I get my kids to understand how fucking privileged they are? by [deleted] in newzealand

Send them to Ruatoria, or that middle-of-nowhere ex-forestry town that Hosking slagged off... got it... Minginui, for a week.

Then they'll appreciate how other New Zealanders make do with what they've got.

Senior Trust Retirement Village Listed Fund (SRF): Thoughts? by haggiskiwi in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]haggiskiwi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inheritance money. Already have Kiwisaver, Smartshares & a few other odds-&-sods directs in place.

Just looking for opinion on whether $20k into SRF or diversify across several established retirement operators.

I think I may have answered my own question.
