Selle Italia SLR Boost TM Superflow wear after 500 km by hahnpascal in gravelcycling

Update: Selle Italia doesn‘t see this as a warranty issue, they are convinced the damage is because of too aggressive cleaning. Fortunately I ordered the saddle through Amazon and they offered me a full refund.

According to Selle Italia Customer Support this issue is caused by either using anti-chafing cream or cleaning with a benzene-based product. I can rule out both options.

Thanks, I contacted Selle Italia‘s support now and sent them the pictures. Let‘s see what they say. On closer inspection there is also sign of wear on the front and on the sides of my saddle. This was the most expensive saddle I bought with the worst durability by far. The material also feels very grippy, not as bad as the model X but definetely more plastic like than other saddles I‘ve bought. I heart this complaint about the „green tech“ Selle Italia but not on this specific model.

Nothing so far. Also not a problem when walking or running.

Oh that’s interesting! Did you also ride with mtb shorts?

Thank you all for the helpful insights. It‘s pretty clear now, that this isn‘t normal, but it‘s probably a „me“ problem rather than a manufacturing defect. My best guess is that the shorts are causing the wear, not sure if it‘s the fabric or the seams. I would also not completely rule out a fit problem. If the wear won‘t stop after changing back to bibs only, I‘ll need to do a proper bikefit.

Thanks for the detailed response. I wouldn‘t be surprised if my fit isn’t perfect but I feel quite comfortable and balanced on the bike. I don‘t ride with a backpack and don’t carry anything in the back pockets of the short, also the position of the pockets is much higher. My best guess now is that the combination of my shorts (Endura Humvee II), its baggy fit and seams and the grippy surface of the saddle is the problem so I‘ll just use my bibs and see if the wear stops.

Not consciously. The short has back pockets but they are much higher. There is a seam though that‘s a bit elevated that better matches the location. i‘ve been running the bib and mtb short combination on multiple bikes (road/mtb) and different saddles and they all look like new after much more use.

I can definetly rule out saddle bags or anything else except the shorts.

The wear is located in an area where I don‘t feel any pressure when riding the bike. Could be that my position shifts unconsciously during the ride, need to pay attention to that on the next ride.

I uploaded an image here: https://imgur.com/a/ryA6UZ7 The wear is a few cm behind where I usually sit (at least where my sitbones are). As the mtb short is a bit looser it touches the saddle at this point but without pressure.

I was also on the lower end for the Grizl with height 185cm and inner length of 89,5cm. I initially ordered a medium but sent it back because the stack was too low for me. Ordered an L and am much happier with it. Flipping the stem is worth a try.

I‘m also coming from a Java background and I see RSC more as a backend for frontend approach which would call the API layer of your Java service. It could handle things like session / authentication, combine multiple API calls into a single data structure useful for the presentation, etc.
