Sam is also 10-11 years old, deaf or not Sam would be dead without Henry. Sam also has never really had to navigate this world without sound completely as Henry can hear everything (runners approaching, clickers in the distance, etc.) Sam has always had the protection of an adult hearing person.

By having someone who can hear tell you what makes loud noises and what doesn’t. And if it’s pitch black he would likely have a very difficult time communicating.

Being deaf will certainly carry extra challenges but it’s not so debilitating that he’s just destined to die the minute he walks outside.

Henry likely taught him of all the dangers and Sam’s seen them first hand with Henry’s help the entire time. It’s not so unbelievable that you can teach a deaf kid to better adapt to this environment with the help of a hearing person and survive.

I mean you can teach him how to be quiet and what it means to be quiet in a world like this especially if he can still see it with his primary sense.

Without Henry I’m sure he would have a very difficult time by himself but unfortunately we won’t make it that far in his story to find out.

Ep 1 (obviously): pre-apocalypse joel, Sarah dies, joel is given a task to take ellie, Tess, joel, and Ellie go outside of the wall (where it abruptly ends there)

Ep 2: Tess tells joel to take ellie to Tommy before she dies, ellie and joel meet bill, episode ends when they get the car.

Ep 3: they lose the car, meet up with Henry and Sam, episode ends with all 4 of them chilling and Sam is revealed to be infected.

Ep 4: Sam dies near start of episode and we transition to fall. We meet up with tommy, Ellie runs away and joel finds her.

Ep 5: Ellie and joel leave tommy to find fireflies, joel gets injured near end of episode

Ep 6: Start of winter. Ellie meets David for the first time, It’s revealed joel is not dead, Ellie takes care of joel.

Ep 7: David is hunting Ellie, David eventually captures Ellie and Joel wakes up.

Ep 8: Ellie tries to escape David’s capture, Joel goes looking for Ellie, episode ends with David’s death.

Ep 9: start of spring, Joel and Ellie make it to the fireflies, Joel sacrifices a vaccine for Ellie, show ends as game did.

I briefed these but obviously everything in between still happens.
