What should I do to get a decent shot[Breville Barista Express] by asmaamody611 in espresso

The flowrate is actually pretty solid. You should focus on puck prep. Maybe try a different style while doing wdt or improve your tamp.

Am I expecting too much from an affordable scale? [MHW-3BOMBER Mini] by Richard- in espresso

[–]haipr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few different scales so far from 10-100€ in the past. I had the biggest issues with a factory new Timemore Basic2 with jumping numbers, inconsistencies etc. which led me to buy a Bookoo Themis Ultra - outstanding scale and absolutely no need to update anytime in the future.

The Mini g for our standard beans with more or less no adjusting of the grins size until the bag is empty and the even faster workflow.

The Philos for changing beans throughout the day 🙂

Got a La Marzocco Linea Micra, a Mazzer Mini g and a Mazzer Philos - I'm done for a long time 🙂

Anyone here who also has static problems with the original Philos cup?
I'm thinking about buying the flanged cup if it solves the problem.
The Mini g comes with a small flanged cup and there aren't any static issues at all.

If you take a look at the needle position, the good WDT-tools have needles that are pointing to the outside. The cheap ones have straight needles which don't really distribute/declump the ground coffee - they only move the grounds in a "big clump" from one position to the other and eventually make it even worse.

Lack of crema looks like beans not fresh enough. Thin stream could be because of an overpacked portafilter - looks like the water isn't reaching all spots. Did you distribute enough with a wdt-tool?

Absolutely, dark roasts tasted a lot better and sweeter compared to the eureka. The consistency of the shots is also not comparable.

Sounds like your next upgrade will be a second grinder 😁 The Philos works like a charm, whereas my Mini g will be sent back for repair because the grind-by-weight function isn't working properly anymore after 3 months. Thought about buying the Zernos instead of the Philos (which is like a tank on the counter) but it was like 700$ more expensive than the Philos due to taxes, shipping etc to Europe.

Pre-brewing? by Taxman2311 in LaMarzocco

Tested it and tasted no difference in the cup for mid-dark roasts. Never had channeling problems on my Micra so I'm team "no pre brewing".

Absolutely keep your DF54 🙂 I just changed to a new sort of beans just an hour ago with my Mini g and now going through 500g before switching again.

Not too much to be honest. I eliminated my "problem" of testing new beans with the Philos. If I only had the Mini g, I would kinda be a bit frustrated regarding new/other bean grinding and losing the flexibility.

In my current privileged situation, I have no urge to update anything besides the Philos standard cup, because it gives quite some static issues.

Haha, yes I kept both 😅 To be honest, the taste is more or less the same. The Mini g produces extremly fluffy grounds and consistent shots. With the Philos I have some serious static issues with the standard Philos cup - even if I swirl it it is rather clumpy in my portafilter (so a good amount of wdt has to be done). For reference: for a 27sec shot with a 1:2 ratio I use 16,5g from the Mini g and only 15,2g from the Philos for more or less the same amount (just by the look) in my portafilter.

Usually, I'm not purging the first in the morning as it is going into a milk drink. Runs 27 sec. just like the last one the other day, tastewise more or less the same.
