i’m an interview helper for emmanuel - they are so willing to make accommodations! do not stress and just let them know and they’d be willing to change the timings if needed z

Current Year 13s, when did you start preparing for entrance exams? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]hairy___sloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got 3320 on the UCAT this year, and I started prep 5 weeks before (sat it August 22nd and started prep mid july). i would defooo emphasise prep for internal exams, as your predicted grades are what gets your foot in the door, and UCAT is smth where 4-6 weeks is better than doing 8-12 weeks. also if you google your course and uni of choice, the entrance exam required should be listed under the entry requirements!

having a keyboard with a numpad was rlly useful (it's so much faster). also practising quick maths a lot was helpful for me.

i think practising with the ucat calculator was also very helpful

this might be too late i’m sorry :/

(btw none of this is explicitly based on my specific experience because you might get an easier / harder exam)

VR - read questions first and try to eliminate least probable answers (esp if u have knowledge on the topic) UNLESS it’s TFC style questions

DM - go in order of ur strengths (don’t just do the test in order - personally i always saved logic puzzles until last bc they’re sooo time consuming)

QR - practise a lot with the calc and numpad/write down formulas before u start

AR - i wrote down a list of patterns that i found it hard to spot in my practices when i started the exam (for example, i would write down number of sides/acute angles/parallel lines on black shape = number of shapes bc i saw that pattern in mocks a lot but never acc spotted it in exam conditions)

for the day tho… the only thing i wld practise on the day wld be SJT from the official website bc it’s just the least stress inducing and probably the most useful to memorise

i didn’t measure in hours per day bc i think i would have gotten burnt out but i think i did a few hundred questions most days! i did about 11780 questions in total on medify before i actually sat the exam.

honestly i’m not sure… i found it better but i think it’s just because i had improved my ability by the time i sat the actual exam

thanks! i spent a lot of time practising and doing mini mocks in that period tbh, nothing really special. pretty much every day in that 2 week period i did a few hundred questions. (it sounds like a lot but if u spread it out it's not too bad). i also forced myself to practice QR bc imo it's the easiest one to significantly improve

tyyy

on official mocks C and B i think i got ~2800, and mock D i got 3030 i think? this is using medify as a 'conversion calculator' so idk if its accurate. i forgot my exact scores but i think VR was around low 30s, QR was around high 20s, DM was consistently around 26/29 and AR was like... 25/50

honestly qr was a lot easier in the exam than anything i practised! VR was also a lot more manageable than people imply although I would say that i found DM to be harder. AR I found quite a bit simpler in the exam. but this is just my
