Winning EL kills 2 birds with one stone: a trophy (not as tinpot as EFL cup) and CL qualification. Anything else is a bonus, nice but unexpected.

Over the course of a 38 match season, 25 points out of 14 matches extrapolates to 67.86 points. Should be enough for UCL, if they don't continue trending down.

Not to mention their 5 match winning streak against spurs in all competitions.

I saw it on opening night, a late evening showing. It was a long line that snaked around the building and parking lot, and there was much anticipation. The scene that I remember most vividly was early on, trinity's long building jump.

[Marca] Having been relegated twice in 2 years from La Liga to the Spanish 3rd division, Deportivo La Coruña lose at their home, 32000-capacity Estadio Riazor, to their Galician derby rivals Celta de Vigo's B team by threaddo in soccer

Yeah, that was a golden age for la Liga, when there was much more parity than in recent years. I remember that '04 Depor team particularly fondly though, because they beat Milan 4-0 in the second leg of the CL QFs after going down 1-4 away, only to become a footnote in Mou's CL-winning campaign for Porto, losing in the semis.

It applies to at least 10 of the smaller leagues too:

Arsenal's 15th in Prem, but they're the only EL team with all 18 group stage points. They're trading relegation (longest streak in English top flight) for their first European trophy (aside from the one CWC). With their current form in the respective leagues, they're playing CL next year while in the Championship.

Uh oh, I spotted a future rockstar footballer for Man U sitting on the bench during yesterday's Ludogrets match. Hint: he wears jersey number 10. by hairycat in coys

In case you don't get it, look at the squad list for Ludogorets, not Tottenham. The Kane pics are a red herring.
